Ventilation dilemma

Recommended Posts

Okay, so things are finally starting to look up for me. Soon I may have the type of cash needed to buy proper equipment and start growing a couple of plants for myself for real. :applause:

The big problem I'm faced with right now is WHERE! I've got a little cupboard that would be absolutely perfect. It's hidden behind a door and is very easy to overlook. The biggest problem with it though is ventilation. Here's a pic..

As you can see it's pretty deep. It's also split into 2 sections with the bottom giving quite a bit of height for the plants to grow and a rod to hang a light from. The right hand wall is wood and on the other side there's another cupboard with a power point in it. Bingo!

I figure venting air out into the roof wouldn't be too bad (we have all sorts of pipes sticking out of the roof so I could just hook into one of them).

That leaves intake. Stumped with that. We have insulation in the roof so I'm wondering if some kind of filter could work for fresh air or if anyone else has any ideas.

I'll probably end up getting a small grow tent and putting it in the corner of a room or something but this cupboard is so good, don't wanna waste it. :yinyang:

What's the height of the two sections? Top looks to be significantly higher than that thermos, and I know how tall they are. Bottom looks broom height.

Looks like the top section could feasibly hold a cloning bed and 18/6 lights, the lower being a flowering area.

You suggest there's another cupboard next to it. Would an air intake from the side into the lower part of the bottom section be feasible? A light trap could then sit between the two sections and exhaust out the top (roof cavity? accessible?).

Your electrics (if bulky) could also sit in the cupboard next door (left side, right?).

based this on 300*800, guessing your sizes.

Top is only <300 (260?) high which would be a bit of a squeeze. I think you have more height than this. A light in the front or back top edge corner and the young plants closest, older furthest might work. I'd probably put the light across the front of the bit above the door, pointing backward, younguns in front, elder behind.

As the elder veggies get ready to go downstairs to flower you clone 'em, give em a few days to recover, set em into the flowering space.

Perpetual yield?

Those are some pretty good ideas :yinyang:

I should have done the measurements before.. The bottom part is around 175cm high, top is 75cm high. Depth is about 80cm.

I actually had another idea with the other cupboard. The door is damaged pretty badly (Dad had a temper and liked to punch doors  ) so I could possibly use that in some way. Drill a hole between the 2 cupboards, run some tubing in with some fans to get that air through.

Awesome idea for the cloning bed on the top ^_^ It'll be a bit of a squeeze, yeah, but it's better than my original idea which was to have it all in the spare room. We don't get people coming to stay that often and those who do probably wouldn't tell anyone but yeah, from what I've learnt the first rule of growing is tell/trust no-one.

The idea of a perpetual yield makes my mouth water.. Never having to drive out to the middle of nowhere, never having to call half a dozen people to get some relief ever again. :applause:

how wide?

??*80*75, is, IMHO, a sufficient cloning space. I've only just started up my small cupboard which is 850*550*1000. I've posted a plan thinking I'll get 2 pots of plants (1 medium or 2 small) out of it every 2wks. That's my small space.

My larger space is same 850*550 but 1500 tall. Put 2 pots every 2wks into there, take the eldest out as the new come in.

Sounds feasible. It's still a WIP though.
