Any LED growers here?

I recently got myself a 90w UFO LED and rigged it up in a wardrobe. Whilst waiting for seed to arrive I put in some cherry tomato seeds just to practice growing, and to iron out any mistakes with my pumps/timers etc before I risk all on the precious mj seeds.

 

I really don't want to get into a 'which lighting is best' debate. I went for LED because of the low electricity consumption, minimal waste heat in a wardrobe, very small amount of grow space available, and most of all - my outright curiosity.

 

I havn't found much about LED on this site so I'm putting out an ask to see if there are other LED growers here; and as well, if folk are interested, I'll happily post my experience with LED as it all unfolds.

 

Meanwhile I'm using 2 x 55w 6400K cfl and the 90w LED with 8:2 red:blue. The red is (supposedly) 660 nm, and the blue 460nm.

So far the tomatoes are vegging at about 2 weeks from germination and look very healthy.

 

Its looking like this will give me excellent veg growth. Its gonna be quite some time though before I can see how well it performs for flower

no one here uses LED's .. mainly cuz theyre crap.. and will never produce the same quality buds you would with a HID..

 

sure they run less power.. but they just dont produce the intensity and heat thats required for MJ flower production..

 

in a small area like a wardrobe.. you would normally put in a 400.. this will net around 8 ounces of top quality heads... my last wardrobe harvested 11 ounces.. if this is the same ufo that they reckon can replace a 600HID.. then you might just have some success in the wardrobe.. but i wouldnt be getting my hopes up and think that youre going to get anywhere near 11 ounces..

 

how much did you pay for this contraption?

wow..i do wish you good luck. I bought a UFO LED for about 150 USD on ebay. it worked at first with quick test.

waited 45 days and then was ready to plug in and only 1/2 worked. there was no warranty on webpage and sure enough all messages ignored. too late for paypal gaurantee. So i tried to troubleshoot...had 75% working, but then that bad half shorted out again..so back to only half working....i saw small crack on edge of working side...i decided to just throw it out. cut my losses, got 6 cfl's....and will do the right thing and either keep small cfl grow or get a nice 250 hps...small closet.

i was sad it happened, but i've fixed many things and saved lots of money, so it doesn't really sting that bad....good luck and buyers beware.
