A MAN took to drug dealing because he grew more cannabis than he needed, a court has heard.

A Confectioner, 40, of Warrane, pleaded guilty to the charge in the Supreme Court in Hobart yesterday.

Justice David Porter heard police discovered 257 grams of loose cannabis, 11 root balls, 31 plants, 43 seedlings, 19 cuttings and 9.6 grams of seeds when they raided properties at Forcett and Warrane on December 17 last year.

Their search uncovered an extensive hydroponic growing operation at the Forcett property and nearly $8000 in cash and drug paraphenallia at Jacques' Warrane home.

Prosecutor Alison Shand told the court the father of three confessed to police he had been growing the drug for 18 months because his own quarter ounce a day habit was getting too expensive to maintain.

But the quantities he grew were too much so he had sold about $10,000 to friends.

Justice Porter said Jacques' decision to sell was "very foolish indeed as it does amount to serious criminal conduct" but did not send him to jail.

He sentenced him to four months in prison but suspended the sentence.

He also imposed forfiture orders for the drugs, the cash and the proceeds of drug sales.

Nice sentence :D

Justice David Porter heard police discovered 257 grams of loose cannabis (personal), 11 root balls(so?? Can you distinguish Cannabis roots from Hops roots? Or Hemp roots?), 31 plants (fuck), 43 seedlings(hemp, surely this would have very low thc and could just say it was hemp), 19 cuttings (same) and 9.6 grams of seeds (same) when they raided properties at Forcett and Warrane on December 17 last year.

Claim that the above was hemp and they would have to test THC content which would be very low and then if they were so inclined DNA tests on all of them which would cost them shit loads.

But the quantities he grew were too much so he had sold about $10,000 to friends.

He sold money to friends? His weed must've been pretty good! (Sell you dimes for nickles! :applause:)

Anyway, good sentence.

But it's still illegal to grow hemp without a license

EDIT: Correct me if I'm wrong too, but doesn't the person if found guilty have to pay all costs as well, so testing for hemp, THC content etc would be pointless in the long run as he is going to be found guilty at the end of the day either way regardless if it was hemp (TAS Police refer to cannabis as Indian Hemp by the way) or the real thing.

:applause:

Depends. What state was he in etc.

Even though you need a license. But anyway Hemp is 'less' illegal then Cannabis. I don't think you would have to pay for the tests. If you do that's fucked. Coz I always planned, if I got caught, to say "did you test the material?" "yes" "and what were the resuts" bla bla bla etc. and then say "Did you test all of it?"

LMAO
