Aerogarden BAG SEED grow diary

Recommended Posts

My Amsterdam seeds got raped so I managed to find some bag seed of a friend. Not the best option but I can always force it to flower before it gets too big.

Using a standard aerogarden with 17/7 light (Can't change the cycle, going out to look for an electric timer tomorrow. Until then I'll have to manually click the lights)

There is a basil plant, a mint plant and chive sprouts at the front of the garden, afraid I need that as a beard in case a manager or something comes over. I'll need advice to manage the overpowering bud smell when it comes up.

Anyway, seeds were just inserted and fed a starter nutrient. 4 seeds in total. Pictures will come up when I get some sprouts (hope they all germinate)

Day 5: 2 more seeds are starting to crack, but they seemed to crack on the side face down to the soil. I turned them over with tweezers to expose the cracks to the light. The last of the 4 seeds was replaced, with the uncracked seed put on wet cotton wool (if it germinates that way I'll just slot it back in)

The sprout has straightened out nicely and is already starting to sprout leaves. I'll name her "Early girl" :applause:

Day 7:

The labels on the pods decided to rip themselves off for some reason so heat isn't being trapped to let the seeds germinate. Fixed the problem by taking the sponge out of the "italian herb" pack and replacing it with the failing seed sponges. Seems to be working, seeds are cracking nicely.

The sprout has about a week on the other seeds. I'm hoping it won't shade the others out later.

Day 8: Makeover

I decided to piss off the beard plants and make the grow space more efficient. I replaced the water with slightly hot water to increase the heat in the grow pods, and threw in 2 starter tablets. Maybe this will knock those damn seeds out of their stagnant germination (theyve been slightly open for days, didn't open further). Just in case, I threw an extra seed in the 3 unsuccessful pods (if 2 sprouts come out I'll just remove one)

To increase light efficiency for the sprout that's out so far, which is growing it's first set of leaves quite nicely, I lined everything in the grow space with aluminium foil.

I made a slight mistake before with the electrical timer, turns out the whole time it was still on 17 hours of light. I overrode the wrong cable... Fixed the problem, and set the nutrient timer to salad greens (24 hour pumping of nutrients)

For any1 reading, would 24 hour lighting be better for bagseed plants? I'm trying to minimize grow time, in case a family member comes to visit before the harvest. .

Anyway, here's the madeover grow space (thanks undisputed for the advice)
