Is it normal for PH to climb overnite

Recommended Posts

I have a 2 pot 50lt res recirculating system and i find that often my ph drops overnight (lights on).I find that when a fresh batch is made PH remains fairly stable, might even rise a little but about day 5 (complete change every 10 days) Ph start to drop. Has even dropped from 6.0 to 5.0 overnight!!!!

Doesn't affect plant growth etc.

My DWC climbs slowly over a week. But no where near as rapid as to what you're reporting calaman. In a week it may rise by 2.0 all up. But my solution to the prob is i have a plastic rubbish bin (75 litre) that i have on stand-by at all times with just PH balanced water in it. Then i usually top up my reservoir, whenever required using the PH balanced water.

Seems to do the trick for my setup. As sometimes I won't change the batch of nutes for a couple of weeks. Just depends on how the plants are growing at the time. Here's hoping you find a solution to your dilemma calaman.

I too stopped checking ph as my meter died. But then I had a few issues so I bit the bullet and got another. I use dutchfest and the ph for it is reasonable stable (other then what I previously mention......I will get to that). I used powergro years ago and keeping the ph stable for it was crazy.

Now my reasoning for my dramatic fluctuations in ph is that it time for a res change. As previously stated when I first make a new batch the ph remains stable for about 5-7 days. After this it start's to get a bit wild.

I was also told the other day by the chick a the hydro shop is she reckons the clay balls raise ph. I aslo thought clay balls were inert and where the best at keeping ph stable. Manufactures of the clay balls (canna and hydroton) also say that the clay balls are inert.

Lastly I use tap water. Couldn't be fucked with the whole distilled water etc. Our tap water here has a ph of 7.2.

Hope it makes sense.............have a ruggie running amok.............hurry up arvo sleep time..........so i can slip away......java script:add_smilie(":bongon:","smid_109").. :D :freak: :faint:

Got a pic of ya system? Chasing ph is a bitch and has turned many a peep off dwc.

What type of ph down are you using, how old is it and how much do you need to add?

What's the starting ph of your water? What ppm;s you running and how old are the plants?

Have you flushed an does it fluctuate when only on plain water?

peace
