Water heater in Reservoir

Recommended Posts

Above around 25c oxygen becomes very hard to dissolve, and total DO drops like a rock. Set mine to 22c, this takes the edge off the coldest days and keeps DO levels high.

SS heaters are better than the glass ones mostly because of the glass ones propensity to crack and explode when run dry, but really you shouldn't run any of them dry anyway. Get the biggest one you can afford because all it means is it will take less time to heat up the solution, and you have the ability to use it with a bigger tank later. The heaters with external thermos are superior to my mind because you don't have to get your hands wet when you want to change or check the setting, and it's easier to see if its on or off that way.

Only really necessary in the coldest months of the year, other than that most houses keep the temps in line with an external res anyway.
