From what i have read keeping a warm steady water temp keeps your plants happy. I read that under around 25C the roots of the plant have more trouble taking up water and nutrients. Too high a temperature is not good either, and like ozzy, i have been using an adjustable fishtank heater for a few months no worries.

just like this one here - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Aqua-One-Heater-300...93%3A3|294%3A50

obviously you'll have to work out what size heater you need for your res i only have a small one.

Also i think ive read somewhere that temperature affects PH and EC

Peace

You definitely need a water heater. Temperature should be set depending on the medium. For both Growwool and Clay pellets I would set the reservoir temp at 26/28. Because the temp in the growing medium goes down between feeding you need it to be a bit higher whilst feeding. I find doing this keeps the medium temp around 22/23 degrees.

Anything below 20 will slow down growth considerably .... 16 will kill the roots completely.

Why the metal one?

Is that just because the glass ones break easily or do the salts corrode the glass or something?

I ask because i am currently using a glass heater, i was given it by a friend and thats the main reason im using it but if theres some problem with using a glass one ill have to look at upgrading in the near future.

Cheers
