Light Study on Sativa Based Plants

Recommended Posts

Ok so here's the story. I was doing my normal grow and my HPS 1000W Ballast kicked the bucket. Actually I turned it on for the first time during this grow and it smoked and then died. Either way it was about 5 years old so it is time for a new one.(Got 2 Daytek 600w's) on order.

So I decided to do a little experiment. I am flowering with my 1000W MH with a little twist. I got a 400W HPS from my brother for free as he is now getting all his stuff from me. So I set the Light on the bench behind my Flood Drain Table and made it so only one plant was being hit by the light Directly. The results are interesting.

The plant receving HPS Light as well as MH is producing much more bud faster and with Trichromes forming like brick of hash(probbably the most I have ever seen). The other plants have seemed to have stretched more, The bud is not a dense and The trichrome count is realitivly small compared to normal. It would apear as though the plant reciving the HPS light & MH light will be up for harvest about 2 weeks before the MH plants.

Just thought I might sare this with you.

P.S. all on the same table with the same nute's and from the same mother. (Sativa- Blue mountain Jamacain)

but hang on, isn't the original thought common knowledge?

Metal Halide - MH

Metal halide bulbs produce an abundance of light in the blue spectrum. This color of light promotes plant growth and is excellent for green leafy growth and keeping plants compact.

High Pressure Sodium - HPS

High pressure sodium bulbs emit an orange-red glow. This band of light triggers hormones in plants to increase flowering/budding in plants.

sorry im pretty High right now. not curing it im drying it. The trick it so put it on a hot plate for 15 mins at 130 F seems to dry up pretty good without destroying the trichroms. not the prefered method becuase it tastes kinda harsh. but I wanted to try some of the batch. :yinyang: I allways test one or tow bud everytime i harvest. Old habbits die hard
