13yo in coma after Jagermeister binge

A 13-year-old in New Zealand went into a coma after drinking an entire bottle of Jagermeister - the equivalent of 28 standard drinks - in 20 minutes.

The case has raised concerns about binge drinking in New Zealand.

The 13-year old drank the one-litre bottle at the New Zealand Snowsports junior training camp in the south island city of Wanaka over the weekend.

Police believe the bottle was stolen from a backpacker hostel and say peer pressure was to blame.

Constable Greg Nolet says it was a stupid thing to do.

"Please don't put peer pressure on your mates to drink as much as they can. Binge drinking is a problem," he said.

The boy is now out of a coma and is in a stable condition in the Dunedin hospital.

So they say peer pressure is to blame, not the substance he took. Tell me again why the #$%! Cannabis is still illegal?

I've never heard of anyone comatosed from a plant no matter how much peer pressure is involved!

Maybe they should just make peer pressure illegal B)

Gee I think ya wrong , haven't ya ever heard of trees falling on people, plants do kill people but usually not by consumption only gravity.

But then they ARE trying to BAN trees through FORESTRY. It is all about public safety after all

Wonder if they will report on the obvious damage done to the kids brain cells by that legal drug he scoffed down that put him into a COMA. Or on the adult role models whose example he was following, police ,pollies, public servents, sporting identities etc who are constantly in the spot light photograhed with glass or bottle in hand,

Eddie McGuire last night on hotseat encouraged a boss to "Shout his workers a keg" after he one $50,000 on the show,

What was that about "sending the wrong message"

Hypocrites with lies....

Tell me about it! I have been in the Army and the RAAF most of my working life and we would do 2 hours of solid exercise followed up by drinks at the boozer! WTF?!? Not your regular over-priced drinks either which would keep you in check. Happy "hour" for most of the afternoon/night and with a good pay packet it was all too easy to get loaded every arvo. Within an hour there'd be fights, people rooting in the dunny, people throwing up everywhere, drunken driving (even though they ran a FREE shuttle bus into town). It's sad to know that a vast majority of our defence force are heavy drinkers yet a rare drinker/occasional weed smoker like me gets booted instantly just for having a few tokes. :yinyang:

I know of 1 guy who aimed his rifle at a mate of mine and pulled the trigger! The rifle wasn't loaded but that is still extremely FUCKING DANGEROUS! Everyone knows that is a DUMB thing to do. Did he lose his job? Nope. He still works in an area that directly monitors our front line troops abroad (I bet the troops would be glad their lives are in trustworthy hands). I also know of a guy who used his defence travel card to pay his gambling debt and his rent, and a guy who is so addicted to gambling and drinking that he lives in a caravan even though he makes just under 60K a year plus many ADF benefits (free medical, free dental, discounted shit, rent assistance). 2 of the 3 dudes I just mentioned have NEVER passed a military Basic Fitness Assessment yet I always passed in the top 5.

Sorry for the rant. I get a bit fired up knowing I got the sack over a plant when there are many many many people who signed up to help protect our country yet they piss it away on booze.

/end rant lol

wow reading this makes me sick. I've smoked an ounce of sour with some friends after graduation never got sick, never went to the emergency room, just got really damn baked. My friend last week was sick for two days because he drank so much while he was busting our asses about being a stoner and not drinking a shit ton, just proves a point i guess. Oh yea and peer pressure is BS! The kid is to blame and well prolly the parents booze kills more then fun then it makes.

Have to agree with you on this one.

You would wonder whats going through a persons head when they drink a whole bottle in half an hour your going to get alcohol poisoning you fucking idiot, some people have no brains at all, stuff peer pressure your life is more important.

I have to say on the coma statement that i had a gift of cookies from my work mate and munched a few down in a relative short amount of time mmm yum they were good i was stoned for 2 days straight i was non compis mentis, i still dont know what the hell he did to them but bloody hell did they kick a punch. The thing is that i was rebuilding a motor with my mates dad and i rember him asking for a spanner and it took me 15 mins to respond (his words) so he sent me inside and supposidly i ate a whole fruit cake and then sat in front of the computer all day playing war craft, just weird.
