Mylar tape

Recommended Posts

many years ago we used to use whitewash inside the growroom because of dual purpose:

1) it had better reflectivity than alternatives

1) the lime lessened fungal growth

and I was told (by someone supposed to know) that reflectivity was better than any of the metallic or 'mirror' surfaces.

Seems times have changed and various alternatives are now available. I guess size is a factor, I wouldn't want to be coating the interior of a 24*12 garage with 2" tape :-)

But then, this time around I'm looking more to a couple of cubic meters, not much more than a few square meters of surface needs to reflect.

Is Mylar the bee's knees or are there other alternatives to consider?

hi BaronS,

Mylar tape is used to tape the mylar sheets on and hold it on.

Mylar sheets area used to create & cover most of the reflective surface in a grow room. The rolls of mylar are wider than 2" obviously for good reason to achieve the coverage.

Alternative options for whitening and increasing the reflective qualities of the cupboard surface area can include ceiling paint (flat white paint).

There are a number of alternative s available. A difficulty arises in the chemical composition of the material used. Gas & odors that may discharge and escape from certain materials so you need to be vigilant and cautious as t4o the type2 of materials you use when combined with heal and light.

Tin foil is a lesser suitable option as it may cause "heat spotting" causing damage to your plants. It is why mirrors are avoided in grow rooms as a rule.

;)

Nitty.

The most reflective and durable product on the market IMO is supershield by air-cell, I wouldnt use anything else, its expensive but it pays for its self in the long run. Mylar is expensive junk!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AIR-CELL® Insulation offers unique benefits to hydroponic growers by offering a product that combines super reflectivity with advanced thermal efficiency, in a medium that is easily cut and installed into growth chambers.

Its fibre-free, thermo cellular reflective construction is washable, food safe, and has been found to increase crop growth by more than 30% when installed in conjunction with a TURBO TANK® and growth chamber.

The reflectivity of AIR-CELL® Insulation is unsurpassed at 97% and while only 7mm thick its insulation qualities are without equal in the hydroponic industry.

id still be painting it white.. just flat ceiling white..

if your starting with a roughish surface.. like ply wood.. then just make up a thickish watery mix of gyprock cement to paint on first.. let it dry then give it a light sand.. this will fill in the cracks and make it a nice smooth surface to paint..
