Aboriginal Stoner Movie "Stone Bros"

It's a road movie about Eddie (Luke Carroll) and his "cuz" Charlie (Leon Burchill) driving to Kalgoorlie to deliver a sacred stone while smoking a stash of marijuana. Along the way, they pick up an Italian stud (Valentino del Toro) and an Aboriginal drag queen (David Page).

 

With elements of Hollywood stoner comedies dating back to Cheech & Chong, Stone Bros had a predominantly white audience chuckling regularly at what was called its world premiere (although it previewed before completion at Sydney's Message Sticks Film Festival out of what Frankland called "cultural protocol and respect").

 

It is a raggedly boisterous film that breaks ground with jokes about cultural sensitivities, including Aboriginal spirituality and skin colour. Like the smartest Hollywood comedies, Stone Bros has heart and addresses an issue - in this case, Aboriginal identity and the futility of drug use...

Unfortunately may be just an anti pot movie wrapped up in a Cheech & Chong styling with the last comments of the paragraph although of course that just could be the journalist interpretation. We'll just have to wait & see...

Ah well, might watch it anyway. Ok I will.
