Tips for growing male plant

Recommended Posts

Is there a guide or something somewhere to help grow male plants? I had a search but my brain is a bit off at the moment  I want to grow a couple to get enough seeds to not have to order any for some time. Would 1 male plant net you a few seeds or would it be better to have a couple of plants? Cheers!

male plants wont produce seeds.,.,.. only female plants will produce seeds.. male plants provide the pollen to pollinate a female plant to produce seeds...

and.. yes one male plant is capable of producing enough pollen to net 1000's of seeds...

the best way to do it is to use a wardrobe with a 400watter.. a 2 pot recirc system with a male plant in one pot and female on the other.. grow the female out so it almost fills the wardrobe.. you may have to prune the male back some to stop it from taking over the wardrobe and to leave more space for the female..

just grow them out like you would grow out a couple of females.. and then just let nature do its thing.. this will literally result in 1000's of seeds...

you can also just grow the male and collect the pollen to be used for later on.. this way you can create crosses on different female strains..

Thanks for the tips! How long roughly would I expect to be able to get mature seeds? At what stage would I be looking at harvesting the seeds or do different strains work differently? I will be growing white skunk.

To be honest, for the price you pay for seeds I never thought you'd get 1000's from a plant!

seeds will take around 6-8 weeks to fully mature... the last seed run i done was White Heaven.. its an 8 week flowering plant normally.. took around 11 weeks for the seeds to fully mature...

seeds are fully mature when theyre almost falling out of the husks..

count the resin glands and white fibers on any bud.. if you can count them all.. theres literally 100's per bud.. when fully seeded every one of those glands will contain a seed... a small bud about the size of your thumb will usually generate around a 100 or more seeds easy enough... so imagine what youll get out of a decent size crown...

if you dont want.. or need so many seeds.. you can always flower the male and collect the pollen.. that way you can seed a nice bottom bud in a regular harvest with out fear of ruining the whole lot.. youll still get enough seed from a small bud to last a few growing seasons.. seeds will keep if stored in a cool dry spot.. not the freezer... for around 5-10 years... easy enough.. there has been stories of people finding viable hemp seed from Egyptian tombs and growing them... so to get 5 or so years from your seeds isnt too much to ask for...

Mj literally produces 1000's of seeds per main cola.. this why its such a great crop to grow. . not just for fiber or paper.. but for flour and oil too... and our former minister for agriculture didnt think hemp was a viable crop to be growing... how he ever became minister for agriculture no one will ever know.. obviously its not what you know.. its who you blow...

Ah k so I've just planted 10 seeds in seed raising mix. I will take your advice and try seeding the lower buds. I don't smoke very much so I only need a small amount of green to keep me going. I really just want to get out of having to deal with dodgy mofo's.

How will I be able to tell when to collect the pollen? Is it possible to grow males and females next to each other and collect the pollen before they all turn male? I only have a small amount of room to work with unfortunately.
