Hydroponics Setup

Recommended Posts

Hey thanks for the reply

Hey thanks for the replies everyone :)

Now as u know i have saved alot of faq's threads etc and been reading up on them.

And the main setup people are using is the bubbler setup but what i need to know is with a bubbler do you run them in tubs or buckets ?

Here is the guide i am using at the moment for my setup.

Lighting - 600W HPS Lighting Kit.

Cupboard - 2m high - 1m width - 3/4m in length.

Fans - 2 Outlet fans (1 HPS Cooler) + (1 Outlet fan)

- 2 Inlet fans

Reflective - Panda film.

Tub - 50Litre tub (If i use the tub setup)

Buckets - 30 Litre buckets x 3 (If i use the bucket setup)

That is what i will be using just depending on if i should go buckets or tubs ?

What do u think of the setup and what do u think i should use ?

Write back thankyou.

I will add more info as i work out more stuff thankyou.

Bye

Mine is pretty similar cupboard to yours,

I personally use a flood and drain setup, as the resovoiur tanks fit almost perfectly in the cupboard and in my view pots are useless as they take up too much room, You may stretch to fit 4 pots in that are where as you can fit 4 plants easy into the stackers i use for flood and drain,

Hey thanks nimer :)

I still got alot of reading on my hands but yeh thanks i got alot of threads to go through.

Just wondering.

What is the difference in the following systems.

Drip

Ebb+Flow

Bubbler

Dwc

As i get a little confused with them.

If someone can answer them that would be great.

The reason i ask is sometimes i see a thread what says dwc bubbler then another one what just says bubbler etc.

Thanks bye :)

Just a tip, try reading the books, "Hydroponic Gardening", written by Steven Carruthers, from the Lothian gardening series, and "Hydroponics for everyone" by the late Dr Struan Sutherland. You should be able to either buy them from most hydroponics shops or get them out at the local library. They have some errors, and it's geared towards vegetable production, but they do give good instructions on setting up hydroponics setups and the theory behind hydroponics methods.

Don't take my descriptions of hydro systems as gospel, either, as white cluster rightly pointed out, bubblers are quite good, and have a lot of advantages, but I don't recommend their use for the newbie. That's IMHO, of course.

Anyway, hope that helps you out. :)

There are also quite a few mj specific books available through Oz Stoner's and all proceeds go into keeping this site on the net, check the link in my signature.

Hey.

What rectangular tubs should i use ?

For 4 - 6 plants.

45L

65L

80L

90L

What do u think i should use for a bubbler setup ?

Also should i tape the bucket with black gaffer tape to make it darker ?

What do u think ?

I also saw a canvas portable cupboard $50 at Big W.

160H - 90W - 50D

Canvas covering, canvas floor, and zipper ?

Do you think it will be approproate ?

Write back thanks.

Bye

Hey Rove...

Well with that cabinet you were looking at, it should be alright with optimum light levels, the 600 watt would give you around 80w sq.ft, but hrmmm it does sound a little cosy. See if you can get something with a little more length... for 4 plants you're going to want to have the dimensions as close to a square as possible. Any more than 4 plants and I wouldn't use a cabinet, just my opinion though.

What rectangular tubs should i use ?

You mean your resevoir? I'd go from 100-150 litres, so you can have room to expand if you decide to add more DWC buckets, and you will, I bet :)

As for individual buckets, 20-25L should be fine, 30 may be a little too large given the space you're intending to work with. You may even want to consider 15L buckets if you're going to have 6 plants under the 600w.

Oh, and just to clarify something for you, to get an optimum DWC setup you'll need to run both a tub and bucket. The tub acts as the resevoir from which nutrients and water flow to the smaller buckets, as opposed to other systems where each DWC bucket is a resevoir in it's own. This is harder to setup and will require a little more research but this method is very effective in the long run. See other threads around the forum for more info on the resevoir system.

And yes use gaffer tape to light proof them if you think they'll leak light onto the plant roots, best to get black buckets if you can.

Hrmm I think that's about all your questions. If you can't find the thread for the resevoir DWC system, you know where to ask :)
