Flowering times...

Recommended Posts

G'day again guys/girls.

I have been flowering for 6 and a bit weeks and have some questions.

I know that some strains take forever to fully bloom, but I have made my own strains over the past few years and have grown my sativa strain outdoors with pretty good success, this year I brought it indoors to go next to my indica's and am a bit surprised with how much longer it has taken to get to ready.

Outside it took about 8.5 weeks and was really chunky, indoors it looks like about 10 weeks. I was just wondering how long you guys have stuck with a strain to fully bloom. I know that it will be worth it as they are starting to put on some weight now and should be great as I love the stone the sativa's give me.

I will put up a couple of pix of both strains and a group shot.

Happy highs everyone, just wondering how long people have waited for solid flowers. I have heard of 14-16 weeks waits - WOW!

Sorry Weedrocket, I know when these little ladies are at their ripest. What I was more trying to ask is the length that people wait for to get their girls to the ripping stage. Like Blaze said he has waited 11 weeks, I was wondering if there is some type of strain that maybe takes 20 weeks to finish and if in that persons opinion it is worth it. Sativa's generally take longer but how long is too long?

G'day Martvic,

Just to note from my experiences with Sativa outdoors (summer season) , 10 weeks is not uncommon :D In Fact 12-14 weeks some seem to go as long for , but of course this depends of a few different obvious factors ... Strains , Conditions and Time of Year etc :flex:

As for why they may take longer indoors ... My thoughts would be ...

1. Outdoor Summer/Autumn sunshine is simply an excellent full spectrum lightsource ofc , and is hard to beat :D

2. The neccesary crowding of Plants in most small grow room operations doesn't let the artificial light penetrate all areas of the plant like spaced out outdoories :D

3. Anything within the "controlled environment" that is not sufficient ... Light , Timing , Ventilation , Drainage , Nutrient and PH levels etc etc will cause a less successful flowering yield , possibly even delaying flowering time? :harhar:

And maybe the particular strains you are growing have been bred to be better outdoor strains , maybe even over generations? So this may have an effect also.

O.k. Then , that about does it from me , all the best for the rest of your grow mate

Bring on those sticky Budshots :)

Cheerz,

Budman ;)

Thanks for your input Budman2012, all these things make sense, ya can't beat mother nature that's for sure.

I guess sometimes the sun is just better than anything we can try to replicate.

TD. I think that you are on to something, this is the first time that I have been hitting the plants with potash. I have been giving it to them since the second week of 12/12 so I guess they had about 4 weeks of that plus bloom nutrients.

I pulled the indica plants yesterday and am pretty happy with the hard little buds I got so I am not complaining about the time frame, just bemused by how long it has taken for the sativa's.
