Reccomended CFM for 400w hps cooltube

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Was looking at bunnings the other day, and the have these bathroom fans that are centrifugal and claim to move 200m3/hour out of a 4 inch duct-hole.

looks similar to that http://www.universalfans.com.au/univ_images/exh_03_ceiling/pop_ups/Exhaust_body.gif

Want to run this just as a cooltube exhaust, with the total length being no more than 2m at the absolute maximum. Im choosing this cause its cheap, easy to install, VERY QUIET and readily available.

Any thoughts?

a 250mm fan says that itll pull that much thru a 4' hole? I was at bunnings the other day looking at the exhaust fans and couldnt find any flow rates on em. I spoke to the help and decided to keep my 40W boxfan on its side up there. I wish i could approximate what sort of flow it moves though.

What diameter are cooltubes usually?

what "seems" quiet in shops tends to be very loud in your grow room keep that in mind when shopping for a fan

yep , Gazz is on the pulse there.. "quiet " when theres ambient sound ahoy is one thing , ... but when its 4am , & the crooks are prowling etc , "quiet" takes on a whole nuther definition..

& I personally dont trust any figures given by ROC manus regarding lpm / cfm /db etc etc.. :peace:

.. lets face it,, they jus making sum crud that they copied from US or European designers , for a cheaper cost/resale etc

.. & yeh , Im guilty .. I buy em too .. but buyer beware :peace:

Rooster , I frequent Bunnings weekly ( its 250m from my house ).. but I aint seen that fan as yet .. looks neat enuff

good luck wif it all , I can only suggest the obvious which is to contact the manu direct for details :D

:yahoo:

p.s. $60 bucks for a decent fan is nothing ,,, a good Westaflex is around $200 .. so look hard at that option !

If you have a look on ebay you can get an inline allvent fan for less than $100, I've had an allvent of the same design as pictured, running continuously for more than 5 years. An inline job would be more practical for a cool tube I'd think. Edited by smokinjoe
