HELP! problems with Fan

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I am currently doing a grow in coco in a 1m x 1.5m x 2m tent and I have been having trouble with odour and excess humidity ( this stuff stinks!!!) i have a 6 inch inline fan with a odor sock which is connected to 1m of insulated ducting which exits through a window.

I have been running the fan for 15m on and 15 off however it doesnt seem to be making a huge diffrence of sucking a lot of air.

I was told that the fan needs to be closer to the window, in other words less ducting between the fan and the window, I was told that the correct length of ducting to a fans exit hole is 1.5 x the size of the fan, so a 6 inch fan should have 9 inches of ducting to its exit hole, can anyone tell me if this is right? Is there any other reason why the fan would not be working efficently? or is it just too small for the size of the grow tent?

Any help would be fantastic

I'd do as you yourself implied & upgrade your fan then wash your sok & reactivate. Run 24/7

See how it goes. You could just wash your sok then retry but I think you know it's the crappy fan & big room B)

First you cold try and wash your sok, then reactivate (Dry)

If you still have problems is is because your fan is 'shit' A decent fan (not talking 'Bathroom Bunnings stuff') is worth investing in to push/pull air out.

Hi raven6,

If I need to upgrade my fan, what do you guys suggest? (grow room is 1m x 1.2m x 2m) would a 150mm centrifugal be sufficient or do I need a 200mm?

150mm centrifugal would "suffice" but for efficiency a 200mm will rock.

centrifugal fans can be noisy bud can be quietened down by using proper ducting ("acoustic ducting") and by limiting restrictions in air flow. Your intake/s (passive or active) need to be larger or equal to the size of your fan (exhaust).

Stealth and noise was an issue for me and my search led me to looking to the causes of 'noise'. Most noise is caused by design where ducting is not correct type (not acoustic), has too many bends causing air restrictions and/or flow restrictions changes in ducting size.

Centrafugl fans do a better job of moving air.

I would stay away from bathroom fans (Bathroom Exhaust fans) - they don't last & suck shit all air for your space - Further they don't cope with filters & odor sok gear............... It's you "space" followed by your needs.

For silence go with the latest technology in air flow dynamics in reducing air flow noise have a look at "Mix-Flow" fans & acoustic ducting.

grab yourself a 200mm centrifugal fan and a new odor sock....you wont smell a thing......and it will help your humidity problem.

I have one myself, it looks like this

[Note] If noise is an issue for you then maybe you should look at the 150mm centrifugal fan and odor sock with acoustic ducting........The 200mm combo will do the job you want no questions asked but the 150mm combo might not achieve the same results. Don't do a half assed job and expect results.
