A SOUTHPORT man allegedly grabbed a cannabis stash and ran from police yesterday, leaving a woman in a house containing a Taser, baton and slingshot during a series of drug raids.

 

Police taking part in Operation Mamba, which targets drug and property offences on the northern Gold Coast, arrested the pair as eight search warrants were executed.

 

Sergeant Laurie Shevlin said the man allegedly was caught in the back garden of a Southport house with a bag containing 112g of cannabis.

 

"Police had to force entry into the house and the male was observed fleeing from the rear of the house," he said.

 

"Police gave chase and they located him trying to jump over the back fence."

 

Police said that in the house they found a woman and the weapons, including the Taser, which is used to administer a debilitating electric shock. Sgt Shevlin said the discovery of the weapon, which was not a police-issue model, was particularly concerning.

 

"It's concerning obviously for police. This device is quite a dynamic weapon which can be used to inflict a great degree of pain on people," he said.

 

"Police officers are able to be armed with Tasers but members of the public are not."

 

Charges against the pair were being finalised last night.

 

In total, police arrested 11 people on more than 22 charges during Operation Mamba.

 

Bongs, scales and other drug utensils also were seized during the raids.

 

Sgt Shevlin said in the two years it had been running, Operation Mamba had had an effect on the flow of drugs on to Southport streets.

cops should go after real criminals instead of harmless people like me an you who just wanna kick back with a bag o weed a bong an sum munchies instead of wasting time an effort on pot thats not even a drug its a plant that grows in the dirt like salvia divinorium also illegal in australia but every were else is legal
