ebb and flow mediums

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I am thinking of putting together a Ebb and flow setup together like AL B FUCT ( what a great grower!) but I was tossing up what medium to use, I noticed that he grows his plants in pots but I dont understand how they are watered, does the water just rise up through the bottom of the pots???.....anyone know??

because I cant seem to figure this out I was thinking of flowering my clones in rockwool or perlite?, what do you guys think?...any suggestions/experinces you would care to share?

How does the water access the roots in pots?....I have seen some pics where the grower has drilled holes in pots and then covered the pots with stockings so the water can seep in through the pots when flooded and then drain out, is this the best way to do it?

If my memory serves me correctly Al.B uses rockwool as his medium, watered twice a day, ebb and flow (water comes in the base of the pot and then drains from the same holes.)

Rockwool holds a large amount of water - that's why it's watered only twice a day.

Sometimes young plants in a ebb and flow setup need hand watering until their roots are large enough to reach the high tide mark.

I just use washed gravel that I sieved out of some leftover premix.

It's heavier than your mother-in-law, but lighter on the wallet.. I'm a chronic tight-arse :)

I just feed my pots from the top and an auto-siphon drains them once they're full (every minute or so). No timer(except for the lights ofc) just a low volume aquarium pump that runs continuously. I like to keep things simple.. and cheap :)

Keep us updated eh and stay safe :)
