First Plant

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Just grew my first plant and now have a few questions.

I grew it outdoors, in a pot. As it was planted towards the end of summer, didn't get very long to veg before it started flowering. Its only about 30cm tall. There are a few others planted at the same time (i threw a bunch of old seed in the pot just to see if they would grow) but they are between 15-20 cm only.. Seems to have turned out okay, it was just sitting in the garden with some other herbs and didn't get any special care.

What I am wondering is if there is any way to clone these ones, now that they have already started flowering and there aren't really any leafy branches out on such a small plant. I'd like to give them another go under a light or something. I've got the money to spend on a small setup for a few plants. I'd basically like to get something more out of this pretty healthy plant, without having to buy some seeds online.

Secondly.. if I couldn't clone it, how would I know when its ready? Would be pretty rewarding to smoke my own grow for the first time ;) Its probably been about 6 weeks since it started flowering. But it hasn't changed much for the last 2 weeks.

Thanks :peace:

You could try re-vegging it .. clip about 80% of the plant off, then whack it under some decent lights on a 18/6 cycle ( or more ) , then when she starts bushing up , take ya clones :peace:

6 weeks in flower u say ?? prolly 2 - 3 more to go.. depends on a few things , like strain & the colour of trichs etc.

Good luck & enjoi :peace:

and stand back

she is gonna deliver for you

gotta love dat

everytime

seen

for mature budz

9wks is the usual bloom period

youve allready dun.,.,. what 6wks so...... 3 wks to go

yes let her go till the next new moon

she will be ready by then

seen

cloneing for a beginner?????????

at this growth stage?????????

Hummm/????

well it is not that eze even for the best

it can be done

but you need the right running gear, a book is allways helpfull

and a likkle bit of experance is a must

seen

anotherway is

if you let her overmature an extra 2 wks

sey to the next full moon

she will shoot some male flowers, pollenate herself

and produce her own 100% female seed

or

cross her with an other female by hand pollenation

did you sey you have a couple of females in flower???????

Hey mate, thanks for the advice.

Maybe sticking them under a light and letting them over mature sounds good to me. If I do 18/6 for a week, then 12/12 for 3-4 more, I might get something decent out of it.

My biggest question; I want to go to a hydro shop and buy a light, but for say 4-5 plants max, what would be the best kind of light to buy, and what should I look to spend for it?

I'm thinking of maybe building up a cabinet or converting my 2 old fridges to grow inside. Obviously would need a bit more work to do that, but just a lamp for now before I invest heavily.

Thanks again, any other ideas keep em' coming. ;)

Whatever you do you will need a 'decent light' especially with any future plan to grow. Without getting too technical a High Pressure Sodium 400 watt or 600w is the best all rounder (Veg + flower; whole grow) light.

exan.....what should I look to spend for it?

As you get higher wattage the "blast" & light bulbs (items sold separate) become more expensive.

Ask you hydorshop the price then look arroud. Do your research well & compare price and suitability. Right choice for you will save later. I have only had 2 HPS light kits (balst & bulb) in 7 yrs and one was replaced due to age not because it stopped working.

irey guidance is a good. ;)

The option to over-over grow & self pollination as an end result is something many people would not even think of. On ya Radic :peace:

It's part of the plants 'self preservation' & need to live that is inherent in its genes - bit like humans. I know it happens and have had it happen recently (not deliberately) on a nice plant ('Milly'). I am also a 'moon grower' as it's [moon] has significant gravitational effects on the plant life of the planet. It's all eirey but a scientific fact.

I am unsure and a little skeptical that the resulting seed would be 100% female as nothing in nature is 100%. In any case irey guidance is good indeedy :peace:

In any case get your 'decent light' & fire it up exan.

Goodluck on you plans

you on track now

If I do 18/6 for a week,

more like 4 to 6 weeks in grow under 18/6

and yes thats an irey way to clones

irey nitram

gotta love every word a dat

we are talking sex here

male/female is ruled by genitics

it has a X or Y geens

it cant be changed

but it can be manulipulated or dammaged

atrue

100% female seed is not really possible due to natural forces of nature

seen

there is always the freek

the throwback

the exception to the rulez

which never fails to supprise i

and tends to leave me scratchin me dread wondering htf did she do that

seen

these tingz are rare, chances are slim

but they do happen and so still must be considered

i have noticed sometimes freeks tend to come in wave like pattens over a broad area

have you noticed that???

yo

i hear reports of freek plants from friends then i see them in my own garden

tell others and they see em too

i have 3 trifollias doing their ting in me garden and i dont know where they came from??????

they could also be pollyploids

doubling or even trippling of the plants cromosones can happen natrually in the enviroment

i have a vibe that climatic conditions round here might be ideal for pollyploids to come into the mix too

it is really just the standard sencie practice of seperating the males before pollenation

that causes this reaction in the plants geens of each succeeding generation

if you do it too many times to the same strain,

generation after generation

it will have a negitive effect on the strain each time and buildup more in each successive generation

once the percentage of male flowers pon the female plant is more than 10% we tend to call that an hemoffredite

and i find after i do this practice 3 times pon the same strain it will trun hemie

it is realy eze to get rid of the Hemie problem tho

just by leaving the males in for 1 gen will return her to her forma glory

pollenate any hemie plant with pure male pollen and the seed from her will be irey

and ready to sencie again
