Quietest CENTRIFUGAL Fan around 200mm-250mm

Recommended Posts

Thanks for all the advice guys. In the end I've settled for a 150mm Westaflex Mixflow MF150 which is winging it's way to me as I type! Next decision is what carbon filter to attach to it. Was thinking about a Mountain Air or Phat filter. Anyone had any experience with either?
i thought westaflex only made centrifugal fans?

Hi SoliSticS,

SoliSticS.....

B) Well don't be shocked when you get it if you have to wire it up...if not plug it in (making sure it is Aust compliant)

looking at the numbers, the mixflow 150mm is rated at 47db and about 150lps, the allvent A60 is 49db and 91lps, however the cheapest i could find was a spectrum 150mm which is only 49db and 91-120lps. Then the best prices i could find were $99 for the allvent, $80 for the spectrum and, shit now its disapeared!, i think it was $176 for the mixflow.

So when the numbers are so similar and the dbs are only 2 units difference doesnt it look good to buy the spectrum? Anyone got one?

This has proven a real informative thread considering im on a new build. My room is only a bit smaller than chrons so Im thinking the allventa60 will suffice but I think i may try the spectrum. if its not up to it i can buy another for the priced of one mixflo

However, if it try to battle through this hazedaze maybe i should go for a 200mm mixflo - dont fuck about and just get wot i know will do the job with overkill. After all i do always have heat probs. Just worried about blowing the doors off! Does anyone know if you can put a controller on em and take em down lower than the lowest speed?

Calaman, I'm fitting my MixedFlo with a fan speed controller. There's some debate elsewhere on the forums about this potentially damaging the motor etc. but most seem to think that if you use a decent controller everything's fine.

I plan on using mine to find the right balance between airflow and noise.

There's a 200mm one on ebay which the guy says has only been used for 10minutes cause it was too strong and blew the doors off. I was just about to bid then thought - hold it, if im running my aircon in the tent, which is pulling its own air in the window/vent, then i go add another 100+lps to the room, then suck it all out, the aircon isnt going to be able to cool it all down cause its going to be getting drawn out. Fuck me, the dramas of building a new room (in a rental at that).

May be an idea to wait and see what the aircon does for the airflow before i go spending 150bucks on a extra fan. Oh yeah, what was this thread about?!! :yahoo:

I love this emoticon :D

most fan controllers are 'plug n play' , so they'll work on anything .. seem to cut ya fan speed by about 40 - 50 %

lol

do you need a specific controller for centris. cuz i have a 300w dimmer and it works fine on inlines but with the centri it makes it louder when it sloes down . i dont want to fork out another bunch on a controller that does fuck all?
