Recommended Posts

i use a yellow westaflex 200mm with a 200mm odor sock - its fkn loud without a filter.....still loud with a filter

i also use a black mixed-flo 125mm inline fan with a 125mm odor sock - its fkn quiet like a mouse compared to the yellow fan/filter....im talking super quiet.

It's important to match-up all round. Consider things like room size, air-movement volume, minimize air restrictions, fix properly to fan the ducting, Fan struts/supports (rubber/foam) or fixing points, & lastly your grow style + plans. This not only will decide which fan but the size you need. My recent research showed me that a 'Mix-Flow' fan is designed to reduce the noise caused by friction & provide the efficient displacement of air. I've mounted it to my c/f & turned it on - a very slight wispser and so quiet - I'm impressed ;)

I found a really handy worksheet for determining the appropriate fan size for your room here...

if your interested in having a look at the mixed-flo fan i purchased the link is here

[EDIT:] after posting this reply i decided to check the link and the store.....much to my surprise they have a 100mm mixed flo......which i would have purchased then and there if it was for sale at the time ;) life fights me.....every bloody step it can !

all im thinking is my 125mm mixed flo is super quiet so the 100mm would have been non-existent as far as sound is concerned.

Thanks for all the advice guys. In the end I've settled for a 150mm Westaflex Mixflow MF150 which is winging it's way to me as I type! Next decision is what carbon filter to attach to it. Was thinking about a Mountain Air or Phat filter. Anyone had any experience with either?

Cheers,

Sol
