First time grower suggestions pleeeeease

Recommended Posts

I'd be surprised if they died so long as you fix the problem now and don't leave it. Cheap potting mix is crap 99% of the time. Any that contain much pine bark are usless for cannabis from my exp. and the 1% left are only good for bulking out custom soil mixes imo. You get what you pay for and soil is no different.

I just use ash from a wood fire.

lol If you are prepared to transplant them it would be the best long term option as others have said. When you say "pull them up carfully" I presume you don't mean literaly pull them up  I'd go with a good quality potting mix over the mix you sugest above. Soil will contain the nutrients that are missing in the fert you are using. With the mix you sugested you will need different nutes.

Yeah well I don’t think ill be making that mistake again with cheap soil :xcited:

I think I decided on the transplant after your and the others advice. Like you say it will be better in the long term if I don kill them in the process. Ha ha no I won’t be pulling them out. I think I will ease them out like when you re pot. then shake/tease all that cheap junk out of there. then maybe a rinse in water??? What do you suggest for a good potting mix? Also I still have the 1 plant that is in the perlite peat and vermiculite mix. Could you suggest a good fertiliser for that one? Also are the nutes I have all ready any good for potting mix or is there something better I should be getting. I have heard Miracle Grow 20-20-20 is good?

Sorry for all the questions. I just really want to get it right this time. I have been reading a lot but tend to get info overload. lol

I have used good quality Rose (as in plants) potting mix to start plants off and it is pretty good.

Thanks for your input Brick.

I’m heading down to the nursery tomorrow to see what I can get from everyone’s suggestions. I think I might try 1 soilless as well.

I just hope the transplant goes well. have repotted before but never changed the grow medium. Just don’t want to damage roots removing the cheap crap soil.

as long as you dig around the plants well enough and are carefull when breaking the soil up they will be find. They can afford too lose a bit of roots, but obviously the more you lose the more you will stunt its growth/run the risk of killing it.

GL with the transplant man =]

also i mix a mild amount of bloos and bone into my soils when putting them in, not much but a little bit, and always some perlite...

Thanks for the tip DarkSpark. I have just finished with the transplant. I don’t think I damaged them too much :peace: Not sure how long I need to wait before I know if I have given them a death sentence.

Oh by the way for those who are interested I ended up going with Yates premium potting mix. That was the best I could find at the only nursery I have in town. I mixed in some perlite and a small bit of blood and bone.

Does anyone know if I can still add nutes to this? Or should it have enough now?

Anyway thanks to all of you who have helped me out :peace: I love this site.
