question on lighting

Recommended Posts

Yesterday i went to look at some lighting and was overwhelmed by the cost of lighting from my local hydroponics store, so on my way home i stopped by an aquariums wholesaler and looked at some lighting there, i found a setup of two T-5 fluro bulbs 54w a piece which run at 10000kelvins. they are used growth on coral in saltwater tanks, would this be a sufficient light source?

thanks for your help

hey mate i spose yo could use it for veging your plants they will work fine but you coodnt use it for flower well you could but dont expect crazy buds so thats why i just suggest if you want to grow good quality buds you might aswell just fork out the little extra and buy the appropriate lighting for them the first grow will urn your money back and im not talking about selling if your hole set up costs you 1000 dollars not that it will and you got 6 ounces off her hypothetically at 300 dollars an ozzy you wood have 1800 dollars worth of bud wich you woodnt have to buy hence buy spending a little extra you will save yourself cash in the long run so dont be tight save up for a cuple weeks if u have to coz it will be worth it in the end

hope that helps you on your path to growing your own koota

Hey I don't want to make another thread so seeing as this follows with this threads topic!

My boyfriend and I have decided to grow, he has the rest of the set up but I'll have to buy lights yet. He said that he had once grown before and thinks he had left the lights on for 4 hour intervals. Now I am pretty blond when it means bringing something to life especially with plants so dumb it down for a noob what should occur

hey sweet rebel..

for starters , ya boyfriend is an idiot.. now that we got that out in the open..

get ya self a HPS kit.. dont mess around with anything else.. a HPS will veg fine.. and produce fat resinous heads.. its the only way to go.. now depending on what size space youre growing in will determine what size light you go for..

a 400watt will do a space 1mX1m

a 600 watt will do space of 1.2mX 1.2m

a 1000 watt will do a space of 1.5mX1.5

always go for a Son T Agro globe as they punch out the most lumins.. also i think its worth the extra to go for a digital ballast

your light times are for vegetative cycle.. 18 hours on.. 6 hours off.. you can play around with the on time.. and have say 20 hours on and 4 hours off.. some people have them on for 24 hours with no dark period.. i reckon 18/6 is the way to go..

for your flowering cycle have the light on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours... very simple.. no need to complicate things

that should have you sorted...

if you havent decided on a system as yet check this link out..

I've been referencing these guys but am yet to prove such a setup. http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/guide3.shtml

A single T5 2' appears to have a Primary Growth Area (I don't think we care about the secondary area) of 1'*2' (30cm*60cm).

I'm thinking that for my .5*1m space 4*T5 may be too much. (can you give a plant too much light?)

Vivaa mentions 54W, sounds like a 4' T5. Depending on the area's dimensions I would think about multiple 2' rather than a single 4'.

But then, I'm also thinking about side lighting vs top. It would seem that maybe a pair of T5's shining down from above and 1 T5 on each side would possibly produce a denser plant. If you have a single HID you do not have such option.
