New anti-drug ads

Recommended Posts

Nice poster luciddreaming. Hope you don't mind if I print out a couple to paste over ones near my house.

Of course I don't mind go ahead!

There's nothing that I hate more than these anti-drug ads. Their aim is to propogate ignorance and fear about drugs, not offer any evidence based arguments. The whole anti-drug campaign is based around "you don't know". If we don't know, then why don't they tell us something we can know!?

Probably because they know any holistic look at the facts won't come out in their favour...

HA! that's my exact argument every time. Why not tell us what it will do instead of just telling us we don't know. Although it could work out in our favour, people might say "You're right, I don't know" and then go research some stuff.... Probably a bit too optimistic hey? hehe

Plus anybody who's already taken any of these drugs knows full well what it will do to them. With the exception of Hallucinogens, but then, that's half the fun of them.

To be honest, it's actually a smart campaign from their persepective.

To look at some of the research for a moment, the government knows that the younger an individual starts smoking weed, the longer the expected duration and the higher the intensity; increasing any associated health risks in the long term. Added to that that, there exists a critical age before which it is likely that smoking weed will decrease the rate of educational attainment (17 for boys, 19 for girls).

Knowing that, the Government's main strategy to reduce marijuana use in the short- to medium-term is to stop young people smoking for as long as possible, even if it is doomed to eventual failure, because if you can stop teenagers smoking until their early-20s, it's a hell of a lot easier for them to handle.

Take a look - it's why the drug ads feature young people even though the majority of heavy weed users are well into their 20s. Get 'em young - that's their strategy. And if it means scaring teens and parents long enough for them to have to actually go and study the facts themselves, so be it.

They're playing the game.

You have a good point there dalex. The simple answer to that would be make it legal and put the retailers under the same laws as tobacco and alcohol laws.

I know the retort to that will be "What about the unscrupulous retailers". Easy answer, " They are getting it now and it is illegal". I think governments all over the globe are starting to get a little scared that the cannabis society is correct and more and more people are getting the message.

Ive seen the Marijuana ad. It pretty much depicts a depressed person sitting in the gutter.. well they are obviously sad. There are 2 other "friends" standing a short distance away mentioning to each other how they never use to be like that.. Cut to a car accident with people hurt/dead..

LAME, LAME, LAME..

If you really wanted to stop drugs (which will never happen) show information, facts.. even graphic real life stories/materials.. Not a depressed person sitting in the gutter.. What does that say? "Oh I might not use drugs, my friends are talking about me behind my back.." PEER PRESSURE MUCH????!!!!!!!

To stop it, you need to legalise it! Get taxation money from the selling of Marijuana to people over 18years of age, look at Amsterdam.. they aren't in debt like Australia/USA are.. Maybe this is the way we can stop the recession!!!!!!!!!

Government: - Stop playing games and wasting money on tv ads; no one will take any note of and put that money into something better like roadworks or something to benefit the Australian Citizens.

- Getting high sure helps me cope with the fucked up laws the Govt. have created..

The Police are more concerned on honing down druggies than sex offenders.. If you weigh it up.. I know what id want the youth of Australia protected from and it sure isnt drugs.
