Cannabis Law Reform In Australia?

Recommended Posts

I'm definitely on board for the artwork. I'm not gonna bother with PM's. just do it here so everyone can know who's doing what. I can do artwork for the website and posters also, anything really. I can make a basic website but I'm not sure if I've got the time at the moment with TAFE. But I would be able to make layouts etc. and the someone with more knowledge can make it so people can sign up there etc etc.

Regarding statistics. The police are making a website (might only be Vic though) with statistics on crime rates etc. I saw it in The Age yesterday, see if I can find it.

Ok.

Here's a thing on Portugal's decriminalisation of ALL drugs. Very good statistics for us.

Look we tried NORMAL, bucket loads of lawyers, we got onto the internet and asked many groups including this one for support legal and otherwise, we have made it almost into the high court with the assistance of around 6 people total most admittedly from here.

The smokers in this country are too afraid to stick their heads up, they might just get busted and have to fight the system, we really need help and have all the way through, everyone knows we have the best argument ever seen anywhere and yet we have the nay sayers, so if anyone is genuine about actually doing something to change the status quo please feel free to back us in our fight and stop talking - start doing.

Good old Aussie "she'll be right" attitude has prevented Australia from keeping up with the US on reform, and from the public screaming blue murder in regards to some of our draconian laws.

If you can grow and are not known by the police you keep your mouth shut and your head down, if you get done several times and are pushed you tend to shove back, but only a few have attempted questioning the law, so many roll over with a guilty plea because the justice system encourages them to do so.

Tie the fucking courts up! This is where the battle is fought!

Australia needs a not for profit group helping people to navigate the court system and to expose the truth on record.

John Ransley from the Qld council for civil liberties might be a good person for someone to ask to chair such a group?

Ask Sandra Knack?

Wodak?

Get 5 or 6 of them to agree to chair a board then start off running.

Australia can still have an organisation affiliated with NORML but it doesn't have to be called NORML, Marijuana is a dirty word and I don't think it deserves to be part of the Australian vocabulary. NORCL doesn't have the same ring to it though.

So if you could nominate 6 people to chair a cannabis reform group who would it be?

John Ransley

Sandra Knack

Dr Alex Wodak

:D

Nicely done , well put :)

I'm seeing a seperation starting to develop now between "activists" and "enthusiasts" ... especially in the "Medical" vs "recreational" area ...

Having Free Will is integral to making informed responsible decisions .. aswell as to allow us mistakes to be made and hopefully learned from appropriatly...

To diminish self responsibilty and basic human rights for purpose of furthering a cause based on submissiveness or fear of persecution is NOT wise Imo .. half the reason this terrible conundrum exists is because of such ...

OzStoners ... this includes us all , doesn't really matter if you think that "Hippies" belittle the cause or that "dealers are Bad m'kay" ... or that Cannabis use should be confined to strictly Medicinal use , see ...

Now I realize that in turn this particular reply is not so astute as the ones preceeding it ... (Btw , many a Philosepher has been an alcho , or some other addict .. not all alcoholics are the same either) ... medicine is medicine

There's no doubt I have a million other things to say about this .. but I gotta organize for Mardigrass :yinyang: oh yeh , that is Australias Cannabis Law Reform Rally for those that didn't know or forgot :)

I hope to further evolve my thoughts on the entire subject and will post here (post haste lol) my thoughts in further detail when I get the time and inclination :)

Cheerz anyway ... and a Happy MardiGrass Weekend to all :)

Respect,

Budman :toke:

Really good input Budman. I agree, there will always be a polarization whenever we look at any issue. I think that in order to progress with this issue we're going to have to utilize all the manpower we have. I think that in the end speaking to people's sensibilities will get the job done. When times are rough and instability is at its greatest people are looking for direction. You just have to have proper organizers and a great mouthpiece to give the speeches.

I've been busy trying to close a business deal back in the States which will allow me to manage my own work and guarantee my income so I've been busy. I was initially a little worried about the effect stepping out in the public about such a taboo issue would have on my career but if this deal goes through, i'll be ready to move on this as well.

Guys, keep the politicians names coming. We need this type of information and we need people sympathetic to the cause. All we can do then is do the research, raise the funds, and then its up to the public to decide. As far as the division between medical and recreation goes, I don't believe there is one. We all self-medicate, whether it be alcohol, marijuana, caffeine, yoga, meditation, sweets, fatty foods, porn, whatever. We all have our reasons. Politically however, I think that we should push for medicinal use first and through the progress we make with that, recreational use hopefully won't be far behind. As I've said though, I don't claim to know the absolute best way to proceed and that's something for all of us involved to decide.

Wish me luck on closing the deal and enjoy Mardi Grass. I tried to get up there but its my birthday today and the missus planned a party...

Lets keep the discussion going and soon i'll get to work on a preliminary business plan and post it to you all for any input or suggestions.

happy birthday nesta

Hope your business dealings work out the way you want.

If we are not successful in our High Court challenge to the laws I will gladly be involved in other approaches.

If we are successful there will be no need for the organisation the fight will be over!!

Happy mardi gras to all, party hard guys, maybe we will see you there next year, hopefully without all the coppers for company!!!
