CHEECH and Chong fans be warned, authorities aren't seeing the funny side of wacky weed, busting several fans for cannabis possession interstate.

The irreverant US comedians and hippie culture advocates Cheech and Chong's Sydney stand-up show was the target of a police drug operation.

The '70s stoners, who are part-way through their Cheech and Chong Light Up Australia tour, had to delay the start of their show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney's Newtown on Wednesday, while police carried out the search with sniffer dogs.

About 25 police and four drug dogs were involved.

A New South Wales Police spokeswoman confirmed the drug operation was conducted in an area that included a nearby railway station and licensed premises near the theatre.

About 50 people were searched and six people were caught in possession of small amounts of cannabis.

The six were issued with caution notices. They were not fined nor charged.

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong arrive in Melbourne today and will perform at the Palais Theatre tonight and tomorrow.

Sounds similar to how Qld cops hounded Rodney Rude, all those years back. Congrats to NSW Cops, you've taken the crown, out of of hands of stupid policing of an event. :disguise:

This is fucking terrible. And I'm not even talking about the useless waste of tax dollars.

How can only 6 out of 50 people be toking up at a Cheech and Chong performance!? :disguise:

I hope they show their performance on T.V, I wanna see it bad.

Look at this comment on the herald sun site....

Nice one NSW police... My girlfriend was robbed at knifepoint at 4pm in the afternoon - less than 2km's from darling harbour police station. Cops took 1 hour to arrive, despite providing 000 with make, model & rego of the car the thief drove off in, not one cop car was dispatched. (The guy was driving a beatup tarago in city peakhour traffic!) Call up 2 weeks later to see if they caught the guy... THEY LOST THE REGO OF THE CAR!!! and needed us to go scraping through our bin to find the bit of paper it was written on. But its good to see they are finally putting precious police resources to good use. Those aging hippies really scare me. 25 officers isn't enough... really we need some sort of SWAT team to contain all those hardened criminals.

:disguise: the other 44 just didn't get caught. Cops & dogs are far from perfect and I'm pretty sure a lot of people would of just gotten well ripped beforehand.

Why is it that the police are never asked to explain why they waste the resources of 25 officers and 4 mutts just to give a caution to 6 people and annoy the shit out everyone else?

How much do reckon it will cost taxpayers to fund all the officers and dogs and horses and drug buses and shit that they'll no doubt have at MG?

Surely there are real crimes being committed elsewhere that are more deserving of the coppers attention.

Cannabis use is pandemic and those in power are running scared.

They know they are losing their so called war on drugs and that is why cops are flailing around busting everyone in site. :disguise:

All these worthless busts look good on the TV news but they don't fool us.

We, the good guys will win this. We might lose a couple of battles along the way but we will win the war.

Go Cheech & Chong!

Yeah I didn't really want to go watching it via phone cam on youtube. I saw a small snippet of the show while a dude was interviewing them, looks like it should be pretty good. They are in Canberra tomorrow, 4th April, so that's gotta be a good sign
