65w compact fluros for $31 at bunnings!

Recommended Posts

G'day all,

Just slowly getting back into my favourite hobby again and I went to get some 48w Compact fluros tonight when I see bunnings have 6500k philips 65w CFs for $31 bux! Fuck yea. 6500k (cool white) is a good spectrum for vegging if i remember correctly?? On the side of the box it says spectrum between 2300k and 6500k and on the front 6500k... Has anyone used these before? They look like the fucken goods..

Im gonna get a 35cm~ china mans hate style shade for $7, lamp holder $4.50 and 3m cord $5.50 so for $48 bux you get a 65w cf setup.... Last time I checked the hydro shop wanted $150 or some bs for a 130w CF... Id rather 3 of these setups. Anyone else done the same?

I'll put some pics up in a few days if anyone is interested.

Hi chunknugs,

chunknugs........6500k (cool white) is a good spectrum for vegging if i remember correctly??

check ya memory ...................No to the "cool white" spectrum

Do the 'battens' take standard size fluro tubes ?

If so you could change to the correct spectrum using 'blues & reds' or combination of these together.

Nitty.

Better than some Ebay thing that's probably stuffed anyway. :disguise:

never had a problem with anything from ebay regarding hydro gear. lights all worked perfectly, HID and CFL.

possibly not post anti-ebay propaganda next time. name and shame a specific store

I would love to see your pics as I'm interested in a basic setup like this, I'm also going the CFL route, low energy & heat etc plus very cheap.

How did it go and can I get all the light shades etc from bunnings as well?

Yeah I got one of those 125w CFLs off eBay for $29 the other day, the things bloody huge like over 30cm long! They need a big screw fitting (E39/40 mogul) which I got from an electrical wholesaler for $7. They only have 2 points to put wires in so I'm assuming the earth goes to the reflector. It does get a lot hotter than I thought tho, I'm gunna make an air cooled reflector, does anyone know if normal glass will block any of the light? Edited by watto

Theire wired the same way as a normal light bulb, one active, the other neutral. Is it a real big one - like a HID fitting or smaller, like a light at home? The size is the only way they can get it to put out those specs i imagine. i put normal glass under mine and light blockage is negligable but its worthwhile for the heat reduction, especially when you put air circ thru it. I found if i used anything over 3mm it'd crack with the hot/cold fluctuations. You could go toughened glass (4mm) but I find with the price difference its cheaper with3mm.

who'd you get the lamp from? got a link? Their just getting cheaper and cheaper. I was looking on one of the trade sites last night - buy 100 for $2USD each.
