i do beleive thats what the HEMPSA party was formed for.. but it seems even these have been infitrated by the filth as the laws here in South Australia have gone dramatically down hill since forming..

Help End Marijuana Prohibition was the party that was formed.. and i believe is still around.. to some degree..

Was that a political party?

I was more thinking like a Nation Wide Organisation that stays separate from politics.

Politicians are dirty, lying scum, you have to be to get anywhere in that game.

IMO i find AUS politics to be less than a joke, and to get involved in it and get anywhere

you have to play dirty yourself, there by corrupting your own goals in the process.

I pretty much agree with Fibrofeend

I think we need an Australian organisation that understand and works within our laws and our legislation to make the changes we want.

I think it has to be a lobby group that is NOT a political party but can act independently of political views to put pressure on the lawmakers.

*with respect* I think having a NORML chapter here is unworkable. The Aussies would still have to do all the legwork, make the contacts to lobby people, find sympathetic lawyers, etc etc while still sending membership fees OS. So where is the benefit to us ?? I don't think NORML has a high profile on the Australian legislative scene, and in fact it might backfire to be a part of an overseas organisation when dealing with Australian laws. To be realistic, as a nation I think a lot of Australians resent American influences in our culture, and this may be a negative not a positive to link to NORML.

It would be nice to get some guidance and support from people who have already fought a similar battle, but it seems that won't be forthcoming without membership.

Agreed, I'm totally put off by this now. Hopping over to Luke's thread now: Starting a Cannabis Reform Organisation.

Sorry Russ, but if this is NORML's outreach then I think it's only relevent and suitable within the USA. There's a real cultural divide here and most of us get rubbed the wrong way by what and how you're saying it. Let's stay in touch, but if we're ever going to do something down here then we need to do it our way and I can't see any benefit whatsoever from affiliating with NORML now. I'm out, if anyone else thinks this is a good idea you'll need to take over from here.
