POLICE have seized almost $1.2 million worth of cannabis and arrested two Vietnamese men after raids on homes in south-west Sydney.

Police raided the homes at Canley Heights and Lurnea at about 7am (AEST) yesterday, as part of a long-running investigation into cannabis cultivation and supply in the city's southwest.

At the Lurnea address police seized 276 mature cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of $975,000, as well as hydroponic equipment, police said.

A 50-year-old Vietnamese national was arrested at the Lurnea home, and was later charged with cannabis cultivation, conducting a drug premises and stealing electricity.

Another Vietnamese man was arrested during the Canley Heights raid, after police found 33kg of drying cannabis head and leaf worth $200,000 and hydroponic equipment.

The 30-year-old has been charged with cannabis supply, conducting a drug premises, drug possession and stealing electricity.

Both men have been refused bail and are due to appear at Liverpool Local Court today.

I've read quite a few similar storys with big busts where the owners get charged with stealing electricity aswell. Seems like a risk not worth taking if its going to expose your gear as surely the margins would not be that tight in a operation of this scale. I guess they're just a bit too greedy for their own good.
