Infrared cops find 10,000 cannabis plants

Recommended Posts

Fantastic for them, not us. :jedifight

But yeah, that's an interesting pic. Never seen it before either.

Who said it was purple wtf?

I'm pretty sure Purple Haze just came from the fact that the plants turn purple as they mature.

Anyway, to explain freddie's post in other words, if the plants grow faster they emit more heat which is picked up by the infrared.

I am wondering. If you fertilised the surrounding area, the whole place might show up red because the plants/trees would grow faster, like if you plant it in one place, fertilise a bigger area about 100 m away. When they fly over they'll see the bigger area and less likely to see the small area.

Just a thought.

the reason they can see the cannabis plants on IR is because the it gives off more heat then most plants. Tomato plants don't affect the IR signature of marijuana plants; i think this rumor may have come from planting marijuana with tomato because they LOOK similar. Corn has a similar heat signature to marijuana and therefore is sometimes used to conceal it.

Guys I'm pretty sure the technology used is not detecting heat emanating from the plants but heat reflected off the plants. Vibrant cannabis grown out in the bush stands out like tits on a bull, it's not its natural habitat and none of the vegetation surrounding it reflects light in the same spectrum. Every plant will be different, reflecting a different part of the spectrum, but think about it natives have all adapted to our conditions over millenia - they use waxy leaves, layers of dry bark, minimise their surface area for moisture loss etc. Cannabis is very different, just looking at it under daylight makes this pretty obvious it's bright, vibrant green compared to the natives.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I read this. Being the world's most popular illegal drug means that the Police have dialed into the right frequency in IR and have the technology suited to this purpose.

What people should be thinking about is getting access to the same technology in the hands of breeders so that they can naturally select varieties that don't exhibit the same telltale glow. It might take a while, but unless it gets legalised soon where there's a will there's a way :yinyang:

hey folks I think this is the same bust but from another news company, and it don't mention infa-red?

New South Wales detectives say they have put a major hole in the state's cannabis trade during a five month operation that included the mid-north and north coast.

The drug squad's plantation unit has seized more than $18 million worth of cannabis from across the state in an operation between November and March.

The haul of nearly 10,000 plants came from seven cannabis eradication programs including the Tweed/Byron, Coffs/ Clarence, Richmond, Manning/Great Lakes and mid-north coast local area commands.

Plants ranging from seedlings to four metres high were seized and destroyed with the help of helicopters, dog squads and local officers.

During the operation, 20 people were either arrested or issued with court notices for possession and cultivation of cannabis.

Gee im starting to think i should start hiking trips :yinyang: Forests in WA and NSW so far check out me other post.
