Top cop opposes cannabis as dad

Recommended Posts

Police Superintendent Bruce Lyons says, as a father, he opposes the decriminalisation of cannabis.

JUST weeks out from the annual Nimbin MardiGrass festival, the local police commander has come out publicly against the legalisation of cannabis.

Superintendent Bruce Lyons said he was speaking as a father, and that most parents would not want to see the drug decriminalised.

“I think as a dad I can talk on behalf of many families and they don't want cannabis legalised,” he told reporters outside Lismore Police Station yesterday.

He also said he supported people's right to make political comments.

MardiGrass, which began in 1993, is designed to be a peaceful weekend of protest lobbying for drug reform, including the legalisation of cannabis.

Scheduled to be held this year on May 2 and 3 at Nimbin, it will attract a strong police response.

“Each year we provide extra resources for the festival,” Supt Lyons said.

This year police are hoping that will include mounted police officers.

“I'm hoping to get the police horses. I know that the public likes that,” he said.

Police would ensure the safety of town residents and tourists, as well as target people involved in drugs and anti-social behaviour, he said.

Last year, the festival attracted a crowd of around 15,000 people.

Police apprehended 80 of them, most for drug-related offences. But many received just a caution.

The operation involved random breath-tests, sniffer dogs, roadside drug-testing, as well as street patrols on foot.

Nimbin Museum spokesman Michael Balderstone said he believed police would try to shut down the museum again this year for the festival.

The museum was closed last year just before MardiGrass under the 1943 Restricted Premises Act.

Yeah , what a suprise

Every year they try and cause as much disruption as they can in the weeks leading up to and the week of Mardigrass , i.e. the annual chopper Raids , street patrols or shutting down "Well Known Tourist Atrractions" (;)) (Last year they were turning cars away saying "Nimbin is Full , Go home" :peace: What a joke.

Well Fuck Them I Say! :D They will never shut down Mardigrass (or move it) The people have power in numbers .. and even if the pigz blocked off every road , I believe that the Stoners will find a way. They can't close the bush and I have Maps and a Compass and Legs (a bonus indeed). So we be right , I shall be your hiking guide if need be. Call me. lol

:toke:

And yes they probably will try to shut down the Museum (WKTA) again , and use Sniffy Crotch Dogs and Druggebago Vans and Horsemen of the Hypocralypse ... and Eco-Friendly Tazer Guns ( ;) um .. Hope not!) and your Friendly Neighbourhood Riot-Squads and ... (SNIP!)

Oh just bloody excellent ... nothing much more intimidating (or dangerous) than a pig with a gun on a giant horse in a small but massively crowded area .. For Fucks Sake! >:(

If he is implying that the public like horses , well that may be correct .. but horses in public? .. Towering over you , Barging you out of the way or standing on your foot? .. In an overlycrowded setting? .. I doubt anyone would enjoy that situation.

What a Fuckwit ;)

Meh , I'm goin' anyway , and I hope you are too. :D Don't let them win.

Anyhoo that's my reply done .. This Budman will self-destruct in 10 .. 9 .. 8 .. 7 .. 6 .. :bang:

Cheerz All ;)

Dear Mr Bluey Lyons

Thank you kindly for your consideration of supplying horses for this years MardiGrass because "you know the public likes that". Could I suggest you also supply Clowns and Puppy Dogs because you must know we like them even more. Many of your staff are already qualified and act like clowns, and it would only require small adjustments to thier blue uniforms to make them look the part. Horses can sometimes injure people and they bite, I know your officers reguarly inflict injuries on the public but it is done on a more personal level compared to a random hoof in the nuts. And if there is trouble, who would resist a clown?

As for your comments relating to being a father and not supporting cannabis legalisation, good for you, and I hope you and those families whom you speak on behalf of enjoy celebrating your beliefs with a beer or twenty. With the amount of incidents your command responds to regarding alcohol related crimes it's good to see your keeping the spotlight off aclohol abuse and focusing on one of the worlds most benign drugs. Perhaps you could issue liquor licenses for Nimbin during MardiGrass and allow people to drink in public, that way I am sure your clowns will be busy dealing with assualts, drink driving, car crashes, rape, theft, etc, etc. And then blame it on the stoners so you can get a bigger budget next year.

Bluey please let me add how clever I thought it was of your command to obtain orders relating to the leasee of the Nimbin Museum. One of the conditions being that the leasee should not be associated with known criminals is fantastic, but wont you have to close all the shops in Nimbin then? Being that most of the village is known for its criminal behaviour shouldn't we just shut all the businesses as all the tenants know someone who smokes the dreaded cannabis?

Bluey keep up the great unbiased non discriminative work and I hope to see you and your clowns at this years MardiGrass.

Love and Kisses

I have been paying attention to the media stories around mardi grass for the past 5 years and have been there 3 times and every year its the same shit that amounts to nothing.

As others have pointed out the police bullshit to the media and employ bullying tactics around this time to try and scare people away and keep the numbers down, but as long as you're reasonably sensible and dont blow smoke in a cops face there's rarely a problem. :peace:
