'New' cannibis sydrome kills your puppies and kittehs!

Recommended Posts

well i guess its so easy for me to throw rocks here so i did get of ma lazy butt and check this story ..

turns out this report is based on ONE case report on ONE individual ... and i Quote selectivly from the report ,

Cannabis is a common drug of abuse that is associated with various long-term and short-term adverse effects

The nature of its association with vomiting after chronic abuse is obscure and is underrecognised by clinicians.

In this case report, we describe a twenty-two year-old-male with a history of chronic cannabis abuse presenting with recurrent vomiting, intense nausea and abdominal pain.

In addition, the patient reported that the hot baths improved his symptoms during these episodes.

Abstinence from cannabis led to resolution of the vomiting symptoms and abdominal pain.

We conclude that in the setting of chronic cannabis abuse, patients presenting with chronic severe nausea and vomiting that can sometimes be accompanied by abdominal pain and compulsive hot bathing behaviour, in the absence of other obvious causes,

a diagnosis of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome should be considered.

yea right , seems to me this report is stretching credibility to breaking point and the conclusions drawn from this study are at best feeble guess work .. maybe the poor bugger was just smoking leaf :peace:

but hey dont take my word for it ..

read the paper here and give us your thoughts folks;

Believe the author was medical writer Danny Rose.

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...881-911,00.html

What is interesting is the quotes from Caldicott, considering :

Dr. Caldicott is one of the founding members of The List, a politically independent group of experts committed to maintaining the truth on illicit drug debate in the Australian media. The List promised to monitor the media on drugs policy issues in the run up to the Australian federal general election in 2007.

And otoh the conservative stance taken by NCIPC, how bizarre..

Look no one is saying in this article to stop smoking or even cut down! as it does is report that there has been some bizzar cases of this syndrom pop-up. WHY DO WE HAVE TO GET DO SENTIVE ABOUT THIS!!!! there was nothing offensive about this artical - why is it BS ??

Quote - 20 cases after thousands of years of use ?

- the internet and, modern hostipals that make reports, and the media are not thousands of years old so who would we know.

quote - "holes in this study why wernt the other 11 studied"

a) only certain people can participate in a study there can be no confounding factors about the person now we wouldnt want confounded people in our study would we maybe then this site would have something real to dig its teeth into.

:peace: the person has to want to participate - 9 out of 11 is pretty dam good participation level when no is paid

READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE "There is mounting evidence to support the existence" - the article doesnt even say it exists just that it looks like it might.

"the sufferer had been smoking marijuana daily and in heavy doses for six years." thats saying to me that weed is pretty fucken good for ya i recon if i ate carrots everyday in heavy doses for a year my liver would pack it in from vit A toxicity.

STOP BEING SO PRECIOUS its ok no one is trying to take your weed away from u - apart from maybe the law

Methods: Nineteen patients were identified with chronic cannabis abuse and a cyclical vomiting illness.

For legal and ethical reasons, all patients were counselled to cease all cannabis abuse. Follow up was

provided with serial urine drug screen analysis and regular clinical consultation to chart the clinical course.

Of the 19 patients, five refused consent and were lost to follow up and five were excluded on the basis of

confounders. The remaining nine cases are presented here and compared with a published case of

psychogenic vomiting.

All reasonable efforts were made to exclude confounding

causes for their cyclical vomiting given the resources at hand.

As a result, five patients were excluded from the study for the

following reasons:

N Polydrug use (patients O and C).

N Porphyria cutanea tarda (patient Z).

N Acute pancreatitis (patient :D.

N Schizophrenia (patient T).

I get cyclical vomiting whenever I read Danoz's posts

An article does not have to offend me to be BS, all it has to do is to be bullshit which this article is.

Do you think that no information was recorded before we had the internet and modern hospitals? As for the media it has been around for thousands of years, not that I would blindly eat up whatever shit they serve me.

You serve up just as much BS as the media Danoz. If you had as you say 'READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE', you would realise the participation level was 9 out of 20 which is less than 50%. However, you state the participation level as 9 out of 11 which is 81.8%.

Fuck off with your misinformation, it is unfair to those too lazy to read the article for themselves.

I eat a lot of carrots everyday, my liver is fine. Now you are scaremongering Danoz, vitamin A toxicity from carrots? Give me a fucking break.

It seems to me that since the minute you got here you have been trying to demonize cannabis, what is it you get from being here?

If you keep whipping up the propaganda you will become a little Harry J. Anslinger in no time, keep up the good work :peace:

THE GUY SMOKED heavy EVERYDAY FOR SIX YEARS !!! AND ALL HE GOT WAS GASTRO LIKE SYMS, WHICH STOPPED AFTER GIVING UP ALMOST IMMEDIATELY !!!!!!!and even this was rare - that sez to me that weed is pretty fucken safe, and that the article is OK

9 out of 11 was a typo thanks for pointing that out. and this is excellent participation level - could be fucked if u were them?

when u consider that some are confounded then a large proportion of the remaining must have participated.

Entheonfarm your copy paste from the methodolgy supports exactly what i was saying - i dont get it.

that not everyone could participate because of confounding factors - these would be things like previous history of gastro illness and taking of other drugs. Its a good sign the study is honest.

Scare mongering?? what part of I grow and smoke weed dont u understand.

I love this site but i hate the parranior some of people here have about the media representation of weed. Maybe u are all scared that weed would become socially acceptable and then u wouldnt be the cool rogues u prob love being.

As for the carrot call ?? talk being taken out of context i said large doses of carrot not just fucking eating them.

I just dont get it - sit at home and smoke your weed and be happy WHY do some of the guys in this post care so much about a report that didnt even really say anything that bad. Why not spend your time on stuff that is unjustified. Find REAL misinformation and concentrate on that.

IM just trying to keep it real - their has to a name for this fundamental religious like love of weed that some people demonstrate

MEEOOW

settle kids...

The copy and paste was to point out the medias lack of attention to facts, only 9 people were considered to have this disorder not 20!

The report lacks credibility and the media are happy to portray cannabis as dangerous when it is proven to be one of the worlds most benign drugs.

Not sure I would call it a fundemental religous love of weed, more a fundemental belief in common sense.
