The new LED grow lights

Hi everyone! This is my first post. Has anyone tried growing under the new LED lights? They come in large banks of red and blue bulbs (the only part of the spectrum plants need). Their advantages are supposed to be low heat emission, no noisy ballasts required and approx 80% cheaper to run (power-wise). Also, you need less height because they run cool and wont burn the plants and you also dont need an extractor fan because they dont give off a lot of heat. I'd like to know if they are as good as the ads say. Anyone with experience out there? Thanks. Edited March 9, 2009 by hoppa

from what ive read on these forums the LED light banks do not work well,

I wont be toooooooooooooo blunt but go an have a read on any form and most will tend to say don't waste your money.

 

True, most, if not all, of the advantages you say are right, but if they are so good don't you think peeps would be using them?

 

1. They are a little expensive atm - they have improved in efficiency and light spectrum ect since their first introduction

 

2. They do not achieve the performance nor the yields that traditional HPS lighting dose

 

Do some real reasearch.

 

If i had $1 for every LED newbie Q on this issue I would be ?
