Rock Festival Gets Drug Disposal Bins

A DRUG disposal bin will be trialled at a West Australian music festival in what police believe is an Australian first.

 

The move follows the death of 17-year-old Perth girl Gemma Thoms, who died after taking three ecstasy pills before the Big Day Out in Perth on February 2. Ms Thoms' friends said she swallowed the pills before entering the festival gates for fear of being caught by police.

 

WA Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan said the drug disposal bin would be trialled at the Rock-It music festival in Joondalup this weekend.

 

"The bin will be placed near the main entrance to the festival and patrons will be encouraged to use it without the threat of prosecution by police," Mr O'Callaghan said.

 

Once patrons pass the bin they will be subjected to the scrutiny of police and drug detection dogs.

 

"Anyone caught with drugs after passing the drug disposal bin will be subjected to prosecution to the full extent of the law," Mr O'Callaghan said.

 

A pamphlet to inform concert-goers of the dangers of drugs has been produced with the input of overnment and non-government agencies. It will be distributed electronically to ticket holders by the event organisers and handed out at the Rock-It concert.

 

Sergeant Greg Lambert said it was his understanding it was the first trial of a drug disposal bin in Australia.

 

"I think we are the first ones to try it but there has been trials overseas, in England and the United States," Sgt Lambert said.

 

"The English trial seems to have been quite successful but in the United States it has proved otherwise."

If I had extra after I'd taken as much as I need for the concert I'd just give it to someone else not the pigs!

Well, I've done some research on Ecstasy and you can only die from having to much of an intake of fluids, dehydration or overheating.. But of course since its illegal it can be tampered with and PMA and all other sorts of nasty stuff can be put in so popping 2 or 3 of what you think is pure MDMA has the nasty PMA in there and you'll die..

Are they serious? .. are they this diisrespectful by trade , by pressure , by evolution or by mandate??? ...

 

SO yeh , I'm going to , as a thinking responsible drug partakethereofer , spend too much money (coz of drug laws ofc) buying my "party Drugs" ... then I'm going to go to a musical show etc. ... then I'm going to put .. my hard earned drugs that I paid for with My hard earned money .. straight in the bin ... ... ... ... ?

(More like dragging the dead bodies of those that had to overdose to "be safe" from suffering " the full extent of the law" up to be 'sequestered' in the super anti-crime Wheelie Bin! ... pending further testing... ) ...

 

This is surely just one of those tests to guage how Apt/Stupid the general media veiwing public is ... however pitiful and insulting.
