I only just came across this story

Police in the Richmond local area command say they were surprised by the results of a recent crackdown on illicit drugs.

Acting Superintendent Greg Moore says two tourists buses were pulled over near Nimbin late last week and more than half the passengers onboard were found to be carrying drugs.

He says while 24 of those caught were issued with cautions, others were not so lucky.

"Depends on the type of drug and the quantities involved," he said.

"In the majority of cases last week people were entitled to cannabis cautions, but there were other drugs such as LSD, amphetamines and ecstasy also seized.

"Those people with the harder drugs would be subject to appearing before the court on charges of possessing prohibited drugs."

Whilst reading wikipedia info about Nimbin

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nimbin,_New_South_Wales

Which paints Nimbin in a not so pleasant way. (go through all the links)

And all I can do is shake my head at the moronic behaviour of the NSW police. lol

Is another April fools day raid on the cards? what are their intentions for Mardigrass? Do they honestly think they are making things better?

Would the tourists and day tours go to Nimbin if it was not the place it is? Probably not! If this action by the NSW police continues it will cost people jobs, businesses will struggle and Nimbin will never be the same. Perhaps that is what they want? Drive away the tourists that come in to enjoy Nimbin for what it is then shops sell up and the developers move in, café lattes replace the bongs and spliffs and suits and ties replace the tie-dyes and bare feet.

To set up an operation such as above is just an attempt to discredit the tour operators who go to Nimbin and is certainly not an attempt to address any drug supply issues. It’s like kicking a dead dog, pointless.

The operators that run bus loads of backpackers into Nimbin are mostly to blame for the current situation the town is now in.

Some of these operators advertise the fact the Nimbin is a mj friendly town and call it "Australias Amsterdam" so then hordes of dopey tourists flock there to buy drugs and the sellers have grown to accomodate them , this is now the daily lifeblood for the street dealers there . little wonder the cops are pulling them over for the easy bust.

Theres even one tour bus called Grasshopper tours ffs , this is a big problem and I bet the tour bus operators DO NOT tell the tourists there is the high chance of being searched on the way out of town , obviously they don't because they are getting 2 buses full into Nimbin and half of them are buying drugs

If the tourists were forewarned they probably wouldn't go there , end of problem

I see your point mulcontent and certainly operators promoting the tour just to buy is wrong

but dont tourists bring money to spend not just on pot?

checked grasshoppers site and they dont seem to go just to buy pot

http://www.grasshoppers.com.au/

all though its the first time I have heard Mardigrass is mostly a harvest festival? lol

from the site

"The first weekend every May Nimbin holds the 'Mardigrass ' which is a harvest festival and street carnival celebrating the harvest of local cannabis crops. It's also a demostration by the Nimbin Hemp Embassey for the legalisation of Marijuana."

Obviously they wouldnt advertise it on their site , though they do mention MJ which is clue enough along with the business name , it's a word of mouth thing around Byron hostels ( had friends from Canada tell me this ) , these sorta guys arent helping just making a quick buck and getting peeps busted its seems

Sure they buy other stuff but it is wrong for them to say its ok to buy pot there

yo

walking home from shopping in town i was in the street when an elderly woman tourist, who looked like she just stepped out of any oz bowls club or RSL said "excuse me sonny can you get me an oz of marijuana please" i must have look ed a bit stunned cause before i could answer she added "oh it is not for me. its for my husband. he got Parkinsons" at this he stepped forward and said "please heads cause i have to use too much leaf for it to work"

then one of the street dealers who was standing close nuff to over hear handed her 1oz and said $100 for you

yes i was blown out too

dealers are healers

the bigger picture

there are 4 buss loads of tourists in the morning and 6 more by lunch

320 tourists every day walk up and down Nimbin streets

there is only about 400 of us that live in town

imo

the cops use the tourist buss busts to get an idear of what is available from Nimbin for their statistics and planing

irey guidance

Why is it wrong to hook up a few tourist with some herb?

If people haven't taken the time to check out local laws then that's there problem. All there doing is offering transport to a place which is known around the world for being "cannabis friendly". The only people causing any problem is the government and police!

If the tourist buses to Nimbin stop it would either fill up with vehicles or shrivel. Neither are the best option.Aren't the results of the bus busting really from a poor decision by some law enforcement type sending a complete mixed message to the world about Nimbin? We'll turn a blind eye to the dealing and hit all the unsupecting , dollar-spending tourists when they leave Mixed message at best....What are the cops really thinking???? Just a view from the outside of Nimbin
