Ballast questions

I am in a bind here, due to how the economy is its not easy getting a ballast with the prices they want for them... If I have to I can construct one no problem.

 

Thing is I have no clue at all where to start, what would I be searching for? Would they be called ballast kits? Then you put them together? Can you build one up thats say 250w to allow 2 bulbs to plug in or would you need a 500w to do this? What do I type in ebay to find these? I have no clue so many unanswered questions I have and I dont know where to look for help at all!

Could use the help please. I am trying to get a setup to plug in 2 250W bulbs, I am hoping to spend less then 80$ US on a ballast if possible.

I know you want them for but how big a light & for what grow area (space)? Also where r u Located in aust or outside of Aust ?

 

Your ebaylink was to an item in US and I would be looking much in the local area for a light & balst.

 

Yo also seemd to be focused on 250w's more or less. Is this the wattage to suit your needs & grow area? Let us know more about your requirements. further, do you want a HID ligrht or (High Presure sodium). The HPS is the light most favored that oerovides you with an "all rounder" for the whole grow start to finish.

 

I know you said you don't know and this is the problem. tell us more about it's (the lighting) needs and information about the area to be usedin ansd purpose (veging/flowering ect)

Thanks for the replies, yeah I am located in Florida here in the USA. This is my set up Grow space. I cant go over 250 due to heat issue also being as I am in a hot tropical area. Each room would most likely be small by inches and barely a foot on each side maybe.

 

Right now I am focusing and trying to get a ballast and bulb for the veg room. Will work out the flower down the road when the time comes. I will be using the same watt with a HPS, just trying to find the correct one or know what all the parts I need.

Mate, If you cant get the $$$$ for some ballasts try some 130 watt cfl. you dont need a ballast for these. I use 2 for my mothers and for veging. you can get them in 3 light spectrums 2700k 6400k and 14000k.I use the 6400k. Good luck.

if heat is going to be an issue look into CFL's as need4weed3 suggested i have used 100,130,200w CFL's the 200w will cover 50cm's square per lamp if u put two in one space u will be able to strech it an extra 10cm im using my 200w to cover roughly 50x60cm and it does a great job in veg altho these lamps do not have good penetration

Thanks guys thats not such a bad idea! I thought if I used those I would need like 3 per room or even 5?! Guess not
