which lights to use?

Recommended Posts

hey guys, so obviously from what i've learnt we use different lights in propagation, veg, and bud stages. after doing quick bits of research it seems like the best way for me to go on a personal grow would be fluoro because of the cheaper running costs. i wanted to know anyone's opinion on the best sorts of lights to use with the least power consumption. the more cost effective the better. would fluoro's be best all rounders (cheap running, easy, no heat issues) or a smaller 150w cfl? thanks for the help fellas.

oh also i get lumens.. but people throw around things like 4000k (4 thousand thousands seems big) and it's in terms of the spectrum and that would mean it's a white colour towards yellow. so how is it that you can get a triphosphor that emits all colours?

cheers

A CFL consuming 130w consumes 130w per hour. Thats half what a 250w HPS will consume.

Both the Cfl and the HPS will put out enough heat to raise the temp a bit.

An exhaust fan used for air flow should keep the temp level enough.

For a first grow this is the setup I used, am using again and would recommend to you.

Get a CFL in the color spectrum off either 6400K or 14000K then the hps is around 2000k to 3000k.

If you get a bigger grow than a closet get a 400w hps.

Cheers.
