No light for 24 hrs. Maybe heat.

Hey folks. Quick one.

 

I need to put my pots somewhere else for 24hrs which will result in them getting no light for that time period. I can't get out of it. They may also experience increased heat and little ventilation/fresh air during that time.

 

My plants are still in veg and I wish for them to remain so for some time. Please tell me what the damage will be. I'm more concerned about stressing the plants and making potential hermies than anything else.

i reckon you be right with them Teucer, a few times my daughter put her plants in a furniture truck and park them down the road when she has house inspection and she cant get to put them back for a full 20hr day, they are locked up without air light or drink yet kicked on and no problems with stress/ hermies ever ...

that cause the plant to sex

in a natural state

as the light hrs decrease the sex hormone level rises

when the hrs of light is = to the hrz of darkness

then there will be nuff hormones curulating in the plant

to cause the plant to show sex

 

24 hrs of darkness will allow the sex hormone level to rise

now all depends on how many generation you have you have kept the males out

and you need to know the history of the plants for this

this practice is very close to inbreeding

after 3 times i like to refresh the strain with a pure male

a pure male is a plant that shows no sign of female buds on him at all.

then i get good sencie for three generations with out any heimie trates

even if you use clones

you still need to refresh the mother about every third crop

I have a question, will the grow method affect how long the plants can remain locked away for?

 

What I mean is, sure Soil would obviously be best for surviving a lock up - but what about a flood and drain system or aeroponics ? Or your standard hydro/whatever setup ? I always thought they would take damage quickly if something went wrong?

yes

there are obvious disadvantages with DWC and airoponics with moving the plants

but the 20hrs of darkness would be ok if you dont have to move the plants

flood and drain might be possible

drip would be cool

minimum disturbance to the roots is a must

NFT would have a problem with that too

i do not move them instead i cover dem up with black out crutians

and then disguize that with other objects

just before the inspection dem

return dem to normal as soon as they leave

usually only 1 or 2hrs

before they back to normal

No worries at all T - just watch that the differentials are not to different (ie. temps, watter & feed). Try as best you can to have air circulation if possible as this will help with keeping the temps managed & therefore less stress. - just keep on schedule.

 

As for the additional information on plant hormones it takes normally 14 days roughly for these to reach 'critical mass' - just like when you go 12/12. Your duration is so short the plants won't even notice.
