War on drugs is an 'uphill battle'

Recommended Posts

Some of the cannabis plants seized during recent police raids are displayed outside the Casino police station.

THE war on drugs is an 'uphill battle', local police have conceded.

“Drugs are obviously a big issue in the community,” Detective Inspector Steven Clarke, of Richmond Local Area Command, said.

“They are directly linked to a number of different crimes in the area. We are very pleased with the result of the recent drug raids.”

However, Christian Gruft, from drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre The Buttery at Binna Burra, said the war against drugs was a tough fight for police.

“There's always going to be a demand for illicit drugs,” he said.

“People are still growing it, selling it and buying it. People are going to take the risk of being arrested.”

“I cannot imagine that we will win the war on drugs in my lifetime.”

Detective Inspector Clarke said it was 'hard to say' whether police were winning the fight against drugs.

“As with a lot of crimes, it can feel like an uphill battle at times,” he said.

“But no police officer in this command, or in this State, will ever give up. It's a hard fight and it can be difficult to target at times, but it is worthwhile. If you talk to the parents of kids who have been affected by drugs, you will find they are very supportive of police efforts to fight drugs.”

Mr Gruft said more work needed to be done to find out why people used illicit drugs.

“As a community, that's something we should put more effort into,” he said.

Det Insp Clarke said police officers in the Richmond LAC were 'very committed and hardworking' and were doing a 'great job'.

“We will continue to target drugs as a priority,” he said.

THEY ARE DIRECTLY LINKED TO DIFFERENT CRIMES BECAUSE ITS ILLEGAL! IF IT WASNT ILLEGAL IT WOULD NOT BE LINKED TO ANY OTHER CRIMES!

OF COURSE THEY WONT GIVE UP, CANNABIS BEING ILLEGAL IS A MAJOR REASON FOR THE AMOUNT OF FUNDING THEY GET!

KIDS SHOULDN"T DO DRUGS SAME AS THEY SHOULDN"T DRINK ALCOHOL UNTIL THEY ARE 18 ARREST THE PARENTS FOR POOR PARENTING!
