Reading PPM's and PH

I just started to grow a plant not long ago, wanted to use water with correct PH levels. I realized I had PH test strips at work, so I took a few, but the scale is strange. It says PPM, parts per million. I want to know how to compare that to a 1-14 PH scale. The scale on the test kit I got is (0-150-200-300-400)

far as I know ppm and ph 2 different things...ph is acidity/alkalinity of water(nutes)

and ppm is total disolved solids IN the water (nutes)---indication of nute concentrations

...anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PH

this might help

or this...just a school tute...

well i read in the employee handbook at work that the ph should be around 7.0 to 7.5 and the scale on the comparison tab with the kit starts at 150? I did learn in class a few days ago that from one number on the ph scale to another is 10, if you jump 2 its 100, and 3 its 1000. Could that in any way help? I figured if it started at 150 and went to 400 then maybe it jumps in 100's in that case? or no?

"Handbook" - is it for swimming pools ? chuck it away

gazza...i wouldnt have a clue what your talking about but i will say u should invest in your own meters those other meters/testing kits are probably set up for something totally different

pH Meter and EC Meter

1. Why Use These Expensive Meters?

2. How To Use Them

2.General Tips

Alright my bad, kind of new to this, could you guys give me advice as to what meter I should get exactly?

I use a eurotec instruments waterproof TDScan 4 tester.

I also have their ph tester. both work well for me.

You can get spare probes ...(the working end of the meter

...it unscrews the last quarter end of the meter...this is the probe)

for both of them...they take watch-type batteries...dont know the correct name for them...4 or 6 in each meter.

Auto shutoff on them for when you're too wasted or forgetful

to turn them off.

I bought mine for $120 a piece...replacement probes approx $60

Follow the instructions for care and maintenance and they

should serve you well.

I have seen forum talk around discussing a NZ product that is very robust and popular. But I do not remember it's name.

Any way, here are some pics...
