SYLVANIA twin 18w triphosphor 4000k (cool white)

Hi folks, I bought this light a few weeks ago in the hope of using it to grow seedlings under it just to get a head start on the next grow when the current one finshes in 2 months.

I bought this light from pond/hydro shop.Pretty sure the guy said it was for growing but it wasn't a dedicated hydro shop and the old guy didn't seem to know that much, also I was under the impression I could just plug it in but it didn't even have a cord the cheeky bugger so I had to wire it myself which was pretty easy thankfully.

So will germinates/seedlings grow at all under this light?I was under the impression and from some online research that triphosphor lights had most of the right spectrum blues reds greens etc ???

Or am I confused??

p.s this is NOT my main light, I grow my girls under 400w HPS

Well if they are a couple of inches away I don't know??

like I said its just to get bit of a start on with new seedlings before the next grow finishes they don't need to be 2 foot high that's what my 400w setup is for

not too sure what the 4000k represents exactly ?Does not say, just says 4000k which does not mean anything to me?? I have not researched in to lights heavily.

18w = 18 watts of light its a batton fluro the old style is it single or double tubes?(globes) u can use it for starting seedlings no problems there used for cloning these days because there dull and perfect i still see the occasional full cycle grow done with these lights and T5 fluros simular but smaller and a tad brighter 4000k is the colour a metal halide is around 4000-6500k+ but for our needs there within these numbers a high pressure sodium is 2700-3500k but with fluros and colour spectrum will do

Thanks Gaz , yeh it's a twin tuber pretty stoked to hear I didn't f**k up too much buying something useless :scratchin:

So 4000k is the spectrum of colours the light emits ?

a 5000k light might have more of the red spectrum for example??Is that what that's all about??

the ' K ' is kelvin or something isn't it?
