LED grow lights...

Recommended Posts

Is anyone using LED's? Can 90w + penetrate deep into the canopy during the flower cycle? Any experience or advice would be appreciated?

I have recently designed a 300w LED panel. My design differs from others which use 280 1 watt LED's because it uses many more (smaller) LED's. I did this to get a larger footprint, realize a longer life (smaller LED's last 70k hrs vs 40k) and to integrate more wavelenths along the PAR curves.

Heres the specs

48 in L x 19 in W and 5 in deep.

[*]300w at 240v

[*]8 red to 1 blue

[*]435 & 485nm

[*]635nm, 655nm & 665nm

[*]8900 Lumens

I contracted a manufacturer and have recieved the unit. I will be testing it against two 600w HPS and possibly three 400w CMH. I will post results using the same room/strains/CO2/ferts and medium.

Are you currently growing with that light?

If so good luck and post some pic's if it goes well.

Hi, I got the unit 3 weeks into bloom so yes with other HID's but no when it comes to using the LED solo. That will begin in a few weeks.

Based on current with LED above 1/4 and a 600w HPS over each of the remaining quarter of the garden, the 300w LED is flowering well but not to the size of the rest. The LED's colas are about 15% smaller however they feel substantially more dense with fewer leaves. I am interested to see how it ends up and will keep you posted.

Hi CashGrass_n_Ass -Hi m8,

I am voting on the BUDS in the 1/4 under the HPS 600. Won't you get uneven canopy ?

I agree with SS & I have seen some of these attempts before, although never with substituted 600w HPS. Good luck I will c u in week 3 of 12/12.

As you guess I am super skeptical and know in full bud you may be very disappointed.

At leas they keep the plant alive and you get nice colorful pictures.

Were obviously not going tot change your mind as you have made the plunge.

:)

Nitty.

Hi, based on this experience I believe the new super bright 1 watt LED's will grow very well. 1 watt LED's are putting out over 40 lumens per. My LED uses 3600 very small LED's that emit 2.1 to 3.7 lumens depending on the wavelength. I went this smaller route to (ideally) get a larger footprint, because the smaller LED's last 2x 1 watt LEDs, having more LEDs let me integrate a diversity of wavelengths instead of only four and finally bc if it did'nt flower well I could use it to root clones. $479 to design and produce, $679 for me to get a 600w LED with 1 watt superbright LEDS

So far I am impressed with its production and can't wait to compare various 300w LED's to 600w HPS & A 400w CMH. The 400w CMH is best so far.
