Looks like were following the good 'ol fascist state of U.S. down the track of private prisons, I suppose the useless govt. here can't organise a root in a brothel even with the ludicrous amounts of tax they steal from us so foisting out incarceration services is the next money-saving, responsibility dodging scam from the NSW gov.

 

"The former Unions NSW boss John Robertson will be sworn in as Minister for Corrective Services today at a time when the Government is moving to privatise prisons.

 

Mr Robertson will also be Minister for Public Sector Reform and Special Minister of State.

 

Monaro MP Steve Whan will be Minister for Emergency Services and Small Business.

 

NSW Premier Nathan Rees said he expected the two ministers to get straight to work.

 

"These are two talented and clever additions to my cabinet team," Mr Rees said.

 

"Their work starts immediately."

You might be thinking 'no biggie' but if you've following how this unfolding in thU.S. what you have is basically a system of taxpayer funded slave labour camps. The prison workers union over there has one of the largest lobbying groups in Washington, and what they lobby for is stiffer penalties for lesser crimes so you end up with the situation where around 51% of all American prisoners are in there for non violent drug offences. The private prisons get around 40K (US) per year for each prisoner they hold so obviously the more 'crims' the better and is it any ownder that the yanks have more prisoners than any other country on Earth? Anyway, what happens next is that the crims are harnessed as a cheap labour force put to work for private companies, I think Sizzler uses them to prep salad and veges and stuff and the crims get paid a pissy wage with the privately owned prison getting paid twice, once from the govt. and again from private labour contracts.

 

Another sad yet scary sign of the times.

Private prisons? Surely that's unconstitutional. Running a gaol for profit is just plain wrong.

 

But it is NSW I suppose. We have it bad up here (QLD) but - and given the immense rivalry between the two states - almost every day there's a new story about the incompetence of the NSW state gov. I really feel for you blokes.

 

Wasn't your premier a garbo just three years ago? Seriously if ever there was a case for a government to be sacked it's got tot be the NSW state. Where's your state governer? MIA?

As to the USA bashing, you're right about their gov. What the hell is up with ours following every decision they make even when we KNOW it doesn't work? Follow the european example I reckon.

Blow them up before any prisoners get in there (maybe just the guards etc making sure everything is in check).

Also have one planted underneath so when they rebuild you just set it off again.

chron i just gotta call you on this one mate not sure if ever done time or not but most of the ppl in the jaols are ppl who commited petty crimes like.. growing weed, stealing something from safeway to feed them selves or a family or not turning up to court for traffic violations... why should they be treated like the guys that rape and murder ppl... its a fucked up system that needs to be revised for sure.......

all the jails are run differently ....some get sectioned off by nationality, while others arent
