to tip or not to tip?

hi all, ive been told that if i tip my plant it will increase yeild? is it true? is it worth it? does it harm the plant much. its about 10 inches tall. thanks heaps.

I've tipped a couple plants early on in their growth, its alright. Didnt really notice much of a difference in yield with the plant that I tipped compared to the ones that I LST'd, would probably have to say that LST and super cropping in my experience have probably had a higher yield than just tipping the plant. Although if you incorporate LST and tipping I'm sure there can be some substantial benefits if you train it right.

Basically when you remove a growth tip you cause the plant to send out new branches below this point. Typically for every tip you remove, 2 new ones will take it's place... which means more bud as the tip of the plant is where most budding will occur when you flower it. It works great for some strains and will increase yield, on others you simply end up with the same yield spread over more branches. i.e. lots of smaller buds. Normally the best time to tip is around the transition from veg to flower ( personally I do it 1 week into flowering and top to 1ft tall ). LST is also great and highly recommended to increase light penetration and therefore yield. hope this helps.

as you can see i changed my mind about topping after researching the fim tek. i hope it works out. also worked out how to put up pics, more to come. feedback welcome. i also just got these grouse new hangers for my exhaust fan, they totally eliminate any vibration. now my girl doesnt complain. previously i just had the fan screwed up tight against the ceiling, but i hate bodgyness, and these devices work a treat, not to mention the increase in performance. this is the plant that had the stem rot. as you can see it recovered but is stunted.

S0DA - you have the info on LST & toppinng .............. I have not used LST but prefer SROG. I do top but @ 4 weeks from germ then again if and as required. I get sigle colas if I don't top em. It also helps with gaining head room.

 

Those exhaust fan "brackets" (straps) they are what I need - where did you pick them up from if you don't mind me asking ?

 

They look like they can do an ideal job on my cupboard i am building.

do some research on the strain your growing as some strains do really well tipped and others will lose alot of yield like strains that grow little side branching with massive main cola's
