Body of Jethro Matheson found; fears held for Barry Grant

February 2, 2009

Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad have launched a murder inquiry after a decomposed body found last Friday was identified as missing man, Jethro Matheson.

Police had been searching for Mr Matheson, 30, as he had not been in contact with family or friends since he was last seen at a property at Eviron Road, Condong, on January 15. A number of gunshots were reported in the area on that day.

About 2pm last Friday (30 January) the body of an unidentified man was found in bushland in the Border Ranges National Park near Kyogle.

A post mortem examination yesterday confirmed the body as that of Mr Matheson. The cause of death is yet to be finalised.

Police had been appealing for help to locate Mr Matheson and another man, Barry Grant, 52, after being made aware of disturbance and the gunshots at the Condong property on 15 January.

Strike Force Danbury was formed to investigate the disappearance of the men, and the discovery of a hydroponic cannabis crop – at the same location – worth an estimated potential street value of more than $3 million.

Officers from the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command raided the property on Friday 16 January, seizing more than 1500 cannabis plants, with a further $65,000 worth of cannabis leaf located during the search warrant.

Police established crime scenes at both Condong and in the Border Ranges.

Investigators are still keen to speak with Mr Grant and have concerns about his welfare as he, too, has not been in contact with family and friends, which is considered out of character.

Police are also keen to speak with anyone who may have seen a white 1994-model Toyota Landcruiser with a blue canopy in the vicinity of Creegans Road, Wadeville, within the Border Ranges National Park, about 25km north of Kyogle, between 6pm and 10pm on 15 January 2009.

Police are also keen to speak with anyone who may have seen the same vehicle on Tumbulgum Road via Condong on 17 January 2009 between the hours of 8pm and 11pm.

This vehicle has been seized for forensic examination. Police are examining possible links between this vehicle and the suspicious death of Jethro Matheson.

Police are focusing inquiries in a number of areas including the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Tweed and Sydney.

Detectives hope anyone who saw the vehicle between 15 and 17 January 2009, or who has information about the men, will contact them at Tweed Heads Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

I more realistic Quote whilst STILL being generous on price would be a little under 1 million

People that grow around 300 lb's a harvest don't sell in ounces or grams they sell in pounds

Which is exactly everyones point , the police constantaly break things down to a gram by gram basis , which is utter bullshit and is simply a means of justifying spending , for every embeleshment they make they can sleep better knowing funding will be there next year dispite their impact on the dangerous drug market being slim to none .

Cannabis and any other drug that relies completly on a life cycle are very easy targets , and are about all they can target and hope to gain any ground , a meth lab can be busted and be setup next door within hours so the end users are never going to know anyways
