Magistrate advises offender to get marijuana use legalised

Recommended Posts

A MAGISTRATE has encouraged a regular marijuana user to attempt to get his drug usage legalised, because it was the only substance that numbed his pain after his whole body was badly burned.

Jason Bernard Young, 31, from Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates' Court yesterday on two drug possession charges after he was found with 2g of marijuana at his home in December.

Young was intoxicated when he fell off a train bridge in 1995 and sustained burns to 95 per cent of his body after he grabbed hold of the electrical wiring above the Bald Hills train station.

The court was told Young had tried numerous drugs and pain killers but marijuana was the best substance in stopping his aches and pains.

Magistrate Bernadette Callaghan said his case was a "tragic" one and advised Young to contact his member of Parliament to try to get his drug usage legalised.

"There are very, very few people who cannot get help through normal medication," she said.

"I think you should write to your member of Parliament about this."

Outside court Young said his life was a continuous struggle and he was going to seek help about getting his drug usage legalised.

"I've been on pain killers and sleeping tablets for a long time but in the end it just ruined my body, and with some tablets I put on weight which stretches my skin and it starts tearing," he said.

"I've found something that fixes it (my pain) but it's illegal.

"I used marijuana four times a day and it pretty much relaxes my muscles and relaxes my body so I can breathe easier. It doesn't take away all the pain but it takes away enough to get me moving and mobile and most of all it helps me sleep."

Young said he was going to contact the Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson about the issue.

He was put on a good behaviour bond for one month

The states will never touch this issue unless they get the ok from kevin and in case no one has noticed he can't stand being the bad guy and can never be seen when it gets tough.

What we need to do is put the pressure on him to make his stance on drug policy clear, make him choose between being a good guy or a bad guy. We have a insecure PM at the moment we need to use it against him.

The longer time progresses with Krudd in office, the more I come to see him as a whingy, spineless bible thumper. The very fact that just about everyone I talk to about him say they only voted for him because he was 'the lesser of two evils' should speak volumes about the man.

I can assure you all that with Rudd in power we will not see any movement toward decriminalisation or legalisation simply because he is a spineless little newt. The one thing I am looking forward to is him being creamed in the next election (but then again we would be swapping him for Liberal again because the Australian public, same as the American public, don't realise that this is not a two-party system we live with, there are multiple other parties to choose from and yet the media plays out the whole election as if the public only had two choices: Liberal or Labor, Republican or Democrat).

I have always said as soon as I am able I'm moving to another planet :freak:

Kryties,

The reason that this is a 'two-party' system is because of that travesty of democracy known as the '2-party preferred voting system' basically it assures that our vote don't stay where we put them and end up maintaining the status quo of labour/liberal (which, lets face it are basically the same). So until the system remains unchallenged and unchanged the farce will continue. Don't think for a second that we live in a democracy ior have any say whatsoever in how the country is being run. But hey don't just complain about here, start writing letters to the editor and you local pollies.

Cheers

Is there room for a third on that new planet? Have we got any names for it yet?

If you people think you're living in a democracy, I encourage you to look at the history of ancient Athens and some of the other greek city-states (not Sparta). We do NOT live in a democracy.

In fact, I'm hard pressed to name one. Maybe France?

This two-party rubbish is just that. We should make political parties and electoral funding themselves illegal. Now THAT would change things. Imagine the country being run by a bunch of folk who had no loyalties to lobby groups and no loyalties to each other.

Now however I think it's time to be realistic.
