Officers on patrol will now be able to check up on offences committed anywhere in Australia.

Offenders who try to hide their criminal histories by fleeing interstate are about to find it much harder.

From today, police in New South Wales will be able to access the full criminal records of people while on patrol.

Under the old computer system, officers could only check offences committed in NSW, and someone who may be fleeing a crime committed in another state could slip through the net.

The Police Minister, Tony Kelly, says the system will now bring up a full history from across Australia.

"[it includes] persons of interest, warnings, warrants, offence history, firearms dealings and offences, protection orders, bail, missing persons and those who might be on the national child offender register," he said.

Mr Kelly says it will make an officer's job much easier.

"Within a few seconds police will have a complete record of the criminal history of anybody they key in right around Australia rather than just in NSW, so now we'll catch those criminals who move from state-to-state to avoid police catching up with them."

Other states will also be rolling out the new system over the next couple of months.

I know for a fact they can see your interstate records in SA, cause I got done in coober pedy a few months ago and they where considering arresting me rather than giving me a fine since I had been done before. Even though I never got convicted he still new that I'd been done including my trafficking charge, for having more then 10 plants. I don't understand why the trafficking charge stays on my record in any state concidering they droped the charge. Edited by jabez

They shouldn't....Why doesn't someone start a database of coppers, their assets, complaints made against them and

disciplinary action (if any) taken against them, and make it all availably to the public? Give us a little bit of the power they have over us?

peace out
