Another Beginner Annoying You All...

Recommended Posts

Ok,

So I've decided on my setup, and will also attempt a grow diary for all to see.

I'm using a 400HPS lamp with a cool tube, with 3 plants, inside a large wardrobe painted ceiling white. Digital timers.

I'm just wondering, what type of fan should I get. I was thinking about getting a regular bathroom ceiling fan (250mm) but I wonder whether this is overkill. Also, I'm worried about the constant noise. With this scale setup, is there a smaller, quieter option available? Or will I need the big guns?

Cheers

Plus - I'm just going to be using soil, no hydro setups.

Again, with the small setup, will I require any devices to monitor the soil etc?

Thanks in advance for the posts..

using a 250mm bathroom fan is my favourite set up they move more than 500 cubic meters of air and there pretty quiet just leave the grill off of the front this fan wont be over kill if u use anything smaller u will have heat issues! also make sure the fan is a ball bearing type they will clearly say it on the box maybe drop into your local hydro shop and pick up one go with the Lenco brand it comes with 3 years continous running warranty and the fan blade has a clamp on it make sure u dont buy the AirExpress fans they are great move over 700 cubic meters of air but the nut that holds the blade on comes loose so go with the Lenco fan and i wouldnt use soil i would use coco if i was you mix it at 50/50% of coco and perlite and you will have the best mix! just treat it like soil and your girls will love u for it

Will do Gazza, you're a champion. - Are you in Sydney?

So coco and perlite. Just grab that from a gardening shop?

Plus - I get the seeds on Friday, so I'll start it then. Now, watering - I know my light timetables, but am not really sure about watering. Is there a general rule of thumb for watering?

With watering depending what medium u are growing in will take diffrent watering it is just a matter of workin out what is best for what u are doing.

If 100% soil about every 3 days with perlite u will have to play a lil with feed times for in perlite i like to start off with 4 15min feeds over the 18 on tome no feeds in dark time and go from there u will get a feal for it as u go along...

Cheers Ozzy,

Will look into all that stuff. Now, just wondering - Is it a stupid idea to plant a seedling straight into a large pot? Or is better to repot every time its getting too big for its old one. I was just wondering whether I should just buy a few large ones straight away..

Cheers

no im not in sydney

yep coco and perlite 50% of each mixed well together u can get coco from hydroponic shops or bunnings as for waterings just water the coco/perlite mix once every 3-4 days with a little run off (excess water running out the bottom of the pot) but make sure u water atlease every second day with just a little water around the seed to keep it moist so it doesnt dry out and kill the seedling as its root appears also i forgot to mention if your planting the seed directly into the coco/perlite mix have a layer 2-3cm deep of strait coco on the top to support the seed or u can buy jiffy 7's there a little round pellet of coco i think there used for raising seeds look in bunnings they have them in the gardening section

Gotta say. Unfortunately, I don't think the Cannaversity site contains much info.

Try to get your hands on Greg Green's Cannabis Grow Bible. It's not bad. The guy's done a great job.

To the guy that said he has his plants in 50-60L pots. Are you SERIOUS!? They must be MASSIVE!

I use 12litre pots for flowering. I use SOG to there's like large pasta tubes. I find them large.

But 50-60L!? Holy crap! What are the benefits with using such large pots?

As to getting your seeds from O/S, you're going about it the right way. Get a feel for various people's experience then order up.

Good luck champ :yinyang:

Thanks for the responses gents.

Well, my setup is underway. I have my light and a plant going on. Though currently have no ventilation. I have some exhaust and intake fans on order, though they wont be here for perhaps a week or two. Currently, my plant hasn't even grown its first two leaves yet, and im wondering whether my plant could go a week or two without moving air. Or is that asking for trouble? I checked wardrobe, and there is a bit of heat coming off the light. It is a 400w HPS inside a cooltube.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance..
