Another Beginner Annoying You All...

Recommended Posts

I don't advocate selling bud, was just trying to make the point that my money was better spent on growing equipment than bud.

Of course it all depends on strain, conditions, etc, but from a plant in a 50-60L pot with 4-5 weeks veg in a wardrobe I harvested 8-9oz (224-252g) on my first grow. That was with a 400W HPS. I also barely escaped losing it to mould.

Best bet is to ask all the questions you can think of until you have a good idea of how you would like to grow.

Thanks for that Naycha. Well, that kind of setup sounds pretty cool. So I'll obviously have to get my hands on a 400W HPS. Any cheap online providers anyone can recommend? So I'll need that - And some sort of timer I presume. Plus an in and out fan, and of course some decent seeds. What kind of fan should I look into getting for 3 - 4 plants using this 400W HPS setup? And also what kind of timer?

I've already sources a guaranteed seed delivery which is great, so now I just need the rest!

Hi clueless,

Also, I'm wondering whether I should purchase a light with a lowbay, or just the light on its own, and tinfoil up the wardrobe. Hmm..

:freak: - no the lowbays are 2 old & some have the heavy balst built into shade -heat dispertion and buildup is a proble with older Lobay lights.

If your going to buy a light setup try ebay under a search for "hydroponic lights" or "Hydro". Goe for a 400 HPS which has a new electronic ballast. a small set of "wings" as a shade over your bulbs alows you to remove it and upgrade to something like a "cooltube"- great for cupboard grow cabs - (also on ebay).

Cya

Thanks Nitty. I'll check that out.

Does everyone agree that Ebay is the best bet for these kinda things? Or could anyone recommend a Sydney provider?

Nonetheless, I've got my seeds covered. Then I'll get a 400HPS light with cooltube if I can afford it, Ill tinfoil up a storm inside then Ill need fans and timer.

A friend of mine suggested I'd only need two small computer fans for such a small setup (3 or 4) plants. One for in and one for out.

In regards to timers, will the normal analogue timers work ok? And I assume Ill just need the one for the light. Is that all I need? Or should I look into something that regulates the humidity etc.? Or is that only something that I'd need for a bigger grow...

Again gents, thanks for the replies, they are of great help!

i have brought and sold hydro gear on ebay none lately tho it seems theres only half the gear avaliable these days than to a year ago as for the tin foil give it a miss it makes alot of hot spots and to be honest its shit as it crinkles to easy u wont get the smooth finish if u wanna reflective room use mylar otherwise white paint or panda film will get the job done as most use

hydroponic shops reccomend the sunon fans there metal computer fans with plastic blades there fuckin shit leave them in the shop! with running a single 400 light u can just use a ball bearing bath room exhaust fan lenco make a great one that moves 568 m3 per hour and they suck like a whore at the local brothel for a cheapie

the really old analogue timmers work great i have a kambrook thats gotta be atlease 15 years old it has run a 1000w light with pumps and centrifugal fans without a problem u can get away with using the new digital timers for a 1000w light (alone) or u can go the heavy duty digital timers that cost a little more but make sure u keep away from the cheap analogue timers they fuck up with small amount of power running thru them

if u use the lenco 250mm fan u will only need one make sure your inlet is atlease the same size as the fan these fans are really quiet its as loud as the one in your bathroom just remove the safety grill so its a little quieter your other choice would be to go with a 150mm or bigger inline fan these wont move as much air and there louder its your choice on my last grow room i ran one lenco fan for exhaust and used 2x600 watters during the hotter months also the lenco fan is guranteed to work for 3 full years of continous use (plug it in and she'll work for 3 years without unpluging it) :freak:

Ok,

So I've decided on my setup, and will also attempt a grow diary for all to see.

I'm using a 400HPS lamp with a cool tube, with 3 plants, inside a large wardrobe painted ceiling white. Digital timers.

I'm just wondering, what type of fan should I get. I was thinking about getting a regular bathroom ceiling fan (250mm) but I wonder whether this is overkill. Also, I'm worried about the constant noise. With this scale setup, is there a smaller, quieter option available? Or will I need the big guns?

Cheers
