here's my plan

johnnyreeferseed

Question

in september of 2003 i am returning to school to persue a degree in biology majoring in plant physiology. in two years and maybe earlier, i will be conducting research into the medicinal effects of different strains of mj. so if you're all still around by then i will have lots of raw data for you to look at. i plan tp focus on strains for pain mangement, ms, and depression. i think the latter will be the hasrdest one to figure out.

howdy,

How are you going about these depression tests, cos I've had depression all my life and found the best buds to smoke when I'm sad tend to have nothing in common, my 2 fave sadness strains are Flo and Bubblegum, pretty far apart eh??

So I don't think its something that can be tested with chromatography or whatever its called, because I doubt the chemotype of those 2 strains will have anything in common, maybe they will and you could find out some new secret. I think its almost 100% to do with personal preference and experience with the plant. Like the plants you loved to grow will love you back when you smoke 'em.

Also I'm sure how much you smoke would play a big part, like I smoke 2 oz a week, constantly smoking with no gaps, so when I wake up I have a big seratonin depletion and wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

Anyway, basically what I'm saying is I can't see how any extra knowledge is gonna help, Like most of being stoned is due to surrounding environment more than the actual drug working on you. Most of it is your body pretending.

There is too many variables. But goodluck.

I'd love to know the best happy strain.

ahh .. nice to see such gentle philosophy on this site.

white_cluster: you smoke from dawn 'til dusk for depression ? eugh .. that's depressing ..

johnnyreeferseed: all the best .. publish, publish ..

pipeman: curious how you quantify being "ripped off your nut" anyways. never tried any indica .. hear they can be heavy/sedating (ie couchlocky) .. nothing I've used ever does that to me ..

blah, blah ..

i also have had deppression all my life and have found MJ to be the best med.my problem is i never know what i smoke(soon will :D )but find most any strain i smoke helps but some more than other's to a point where i become manic and very happy.strains are differnt and so are ppl so i guess it comes down to what ppl like but there may be other factors involved(would be nice to find out).i have yet to try flo(but have had my eye on it because of its write up/discription and have not tryed bubble gum so both may be a good strart from what i heard from them and just trying differnt strains untill i find the ones that have the effect MJ has had at various times with the best result.so good luck JRS and i will be very interested in your future work.happy herb. :)

History

Cannabis is an ancient plant in terms of use, having been known in central Asia and China as early as 3000 BC and in India and the Near East shortly thereafter. Its introduction to Europe and the Western Hemisphere was probably by way of Africa. Historically, cannabis has been regarded as having medicinal value, and it was used as a folk medicine prior to the 1900s. Reportedly, it was considered valuable as an analgesic, topical anesthetic, antispasmodic, antidepressant, appetite stimulant, antiasthmatic, and antibiotic. In the 20th century the pattern of pleasure-giving use spread from the lower classes to the middle classes in the West, particularly among intellectuals. From the 1960s it spread throughout various student populations from universities and colleges to secondary schools, finally reaching the elementary schools. This spread to "fad" proportions almost totally obscured the historic use of cannabis as a medicine. Marijuana has been used for victims of glaucoma, and cannabis generally may prove to be of some value in the treatment of depression, loss of appetite, high blood pressure, anxiety, migraine, and various gynecological and menstrual problems.

Hey Johnny,

T-boats quote bought up quite a good point, I give a couple of ounces to my missus little sister for period pain, she only smokes it then, and doesn't actually like the stuff. So the best pain management strains with the least amount of high is another strain to look for, and I think the most important strain to be found or bred, If a strain could cure your pain without effecting your mindset there is no way it could be kept illegal.

the reason depression strains would be hard to test is that most people who have moderate to severe depression(including myself) are already taking some form of anti depressent. research tests would need subjects with severe to moderate depression and not taking any prescribed meds for it. that way, if you do a double blind reseach project(some receiving mj and others a placebo), you should be able to get some definative results. as for pain and mindset, i like the injestion method, as it is more of a relaxing high, but i still remain able to think and act in a proper fashion.
